DEER Damage

Oh well - Friday night at 6:45pm - It was a dark and rainy night - out came a deer and wanted to get personal - rubbed my bumper and kissed the windshield - after the "love" dropped dead.

Travelling 40 mph - had my TL not been lowered I would have had the deer in my lap - luckily he just gave me a kiss...

The results = $7k damage to the TL and a dead deer...

That didn't surprise me at all. Body work can get really expensive these days.

if your car had not been lowered, I cannot see it being in your lap?

Yeah, how does lowering the car help? If anything, lowering the car made it worse. Hence the deer flew over the bumper and into the windshield.

Had it not been lowered there would have been additional engine damage = resulting in the car being written off.

Get the TL fixed and some deer jerky..good to go! Sorry to hear that man. I actually fear hitting a deer or elk (around this area) more than drunks out driving!

All covered by the insurance company revised cost of $6,316.51:

$300 deductible (full coverage) waived

New bumper, inner bumper, radiator, front grill, fog lights (aftermarket), Comptech Intake, a few new mounts, inner tire well, wipers, windshield, driver's side door, driver's side mirror, hood, hood latch, both headlights and mounts, interior cleaning (rain and glass damage), front wheel alignment and pin-striping (yes, I have it on the TL).
Insurance will also cover the funeral for the deer

I feel your pain, about 2 week ago I hit bambi after I missed his mom but it was raining hard. Paint looks a little cracked on the bumper where it his his thigh and a dent on the hood from his head or something. Good thing I had a chance to break from 40mph to 20mph or whatever I ended up at before I smacked bambi.

I hate deer. They should be shot before cougars or beers or wolves. They're too dumb to cross roads.

But it probably doesn't help cause i also drive a motorcycle so if i hit one im dead. Stupid animal... my biggest fear on the road.

It's expensive now. A flatbed wasn't used to tow the car.

But yeah, deers suck. Maybe deer hunting should be expanded to control their population.

Reviewing it now the 2 inches may have made a difference (I thought maybe the deer's legs where taken out first and reducing the damage to the engine, however the lowering actually made it worse - just found out they have to replace my dash as well as the horn and head of the deer cracked the dash and left hole where the horn made contact with it. Once it's fixed up I am planning on selling it...

Thats why i said that. Usually the lower you are the more likely it is for the car to scoop it up throwing it int the windshield

Some people say you want to let off the breaks and hit the gas a little just before you hit the deer... just to get your front end up that much more.

I doubt i would be thinking of that as i was flying into one though.

I know the feeling, I hit one this past May. I was hotter than the month of July. The front end damage wasn't as "bad" as anyone would've anticipated. I was able to drive it to work, call my insurance company drive it to the recommended body shop which estimated over 5 grand. Its a wonder that the air bags didn't deploy as hard as I hit the dayum thing...had fur and $hit all on my hood....guess I litterally scared the $hyt out of him.

I seriously hate those dayum animals!

good to hear you're ok. If anything, use this as an excuse to get those bimmer sidemarkers put in since you need new fenders.

Food for Though! Think about this.
I knew a Lady that was decapitated (head was severed off) when a deer came through her windshield.
Just a thought=consider yourself blessed that you walked away. She didn't. My Father always told me if you can walk away from an accident ="That's all that matters, the car can be fixed or replaced, you can't be replaced."
1. It's a hassle for sure to get the car fixed, deal with the insurance company, do without wheels, etc. etc. etc.
2. Imagine your friends and relatives filing past your coffin at the funeral home.

Having lost a few friends to Auto accidents=Number 1. is better!
