Debating Header Purchase

so im in the market for some ct eng headers but have some worries. i have been told that its not worth the money and trouble and that there is a very high chance that headers leak resonate or crack etc and others problems that could go wrong. is there any reason why i shouldnt get ct headers? are headers really this troublesome. i was quoted about $500 install is it worth the money and performance gains without all the headaches? anybody have problems with their ct headers on their tl non type s or s? ur guys opinions will def help me decide if i want these headers or not

There is NOTHING to worry about CT headers. I dont know where in the world you would have read that about them. They are the best problem free headers out there.

500 for install is WAY to high!

thats very reassuring. the quote was from my muffler shop tht installed my atlps. he said it would take about 5hr install or even a day if he had to lift the motor. how much would an average price of install be then? and how difficult could it be? i want theses ct headers to last for the remainder life of the car or possibly 4ever lol

The front one is easy to get to it. The back one is not fun at all, try not to strip out or break the bolts, you can get to it without pulling the motor out, but it would be so much easier though lol. $500 sound about right.

If this is 2nd Gen TL, it should not take them the entire days to install the headers. It took me about 5 hours to do it myself (one person) in my home garage without all the professional tools which the muffler shop has.

The CT headers is the best headers out there for 2nd Gen TL if you could still find it. I have not heard any bad thing about CT headers. If installed right, you should not have any issue with it. I have DC (2-bolt) headers and have been running on my TL-S close to 5 years without having any problem. knock on woooooddddd......

Cheers !!!

lol $500 for a header install? woowwwww... way too high, i had mine done by a honda tech for $80, only took him about two hours.

80 is a good deal, but you shouldnt pay more than 200 imo.

80 or even 200 sounds a lot nicer to my wallet for the install lol... wanna install my headers when i get them drcookie lol... ive gotten 2 quotes and they both ranged from 500-600 which is 1/2 the price of the headers alone. i just want to make sure theyre installed right which is my priority and price is the 2nd thing im worried about... can anybody maybe recommend a shop in the san fernando valley?

Have you tried Honda specialty shops? (Shops that only do Hondas) They're typically former Honda techs that went into business for themselves. They'll be cheaper than a dealer and/or a chain repair shop and will do a better job for less money. Usually.

Its a 2-2.5 hour job for a mechanic. I can do it in under 2 hours in my driveway now, and that is dealing with rusty bolts.

$600...that's actually reasonable compared to the joke I got from a muffler shop. They said aroud $850-1000 "This is a difficult job and we may need to keep the car for at lease 6 hours to check for leaks....yadda yadda yadda."

I played stupid and pretended to be interested, and just when I could see the greed gleaming in the shop owners eyes as he tried to upsell me a $1800 complete custom system, "Buddy, it'll sound excellent..." I gave him the old "Well I'll consider it....thanks for your time." and walked right out. Some of these shops are straight piranhas.
