Dealer trying to hose me??? What's new!!!
So I went into my local Acura dealership over the weekend and I intended on purchasing the 4 year, 100k km extended warranty. Anyways after a bit of discussion with the sales manager, he ended up selling me the 5yr. 130k km warranty, and he slashed 150 bux off the retail price. I ended up picking it up for 1158 + tax, instead of 1308, and that also includes the road side assistance. Anyways I noticed he had a chart with the tint grade on it (how dark they go), and so I figured this might be a good opportunity to score a good deal if I go with the whole package. So i was like "ok, well i would be interested in the 35% for the front windows, which is the legal limit in Ontario, and 20% for the 2 rear passengers and also for the back windshield". So he was like, "well these are of extremely high quality material...so in my mind I was like "here we go with the sales pitch, what he doesn't know is I've already done my research and I know the prices of many other acura dealerships". So then he goes, "these tints are made of Lumar titanium. So of course I was like, ok how much you asking installed. He's like...well they are usually 499 installed, but I can let you have them with this warranty for 399. The guy probably jacked the price to 499, and then slashed off 100 bux to make me believe that he was giving me a good deal. However he couldn't have done this for the warranty, because firstly he had a brochure and the prices were printed on it, and secondly I've gone to Markham acura, and they quoted me the exact same prices for all the warranties, I believe the warranties are all from Honda Canada.
Anyways, back to the tints. Do you guys think that 399 is a complete rip off for Lumar Titanium?? I mean to be perfectly honest, the only reason I would want tints is strictly for the look it gives our car, but I mean I would be content with any solar guard tint, so long as it's backed by a decent warranty, and it guaranteed to not turn purple.
What's your opinions guys???

EDIT: just realized you were talkin in canadian currency, how much is that in US dollars? If it's around 100-150, then its reasonable.

Rip-Off! The only auto tint that should cost more than say $200.00US is the new ceramic tints by Huber Optics. Here in sunny south Florida there's a tint shop on every corner.

one thing I don't want on the tint is the white, I think they call it the frost look. I hate cars that have the white on the bottom of the tint, and then it fades into black. I would rather not have tint, then have that.
I want something that looks amazing, and stays solid black.

Why are we going Dealer for such things? Better jobs and prices are available outside for this type of work. Plus most dealerships will sub contract this type of job ne wayz. One way to find out who they sub contract it to, is make an anonomous phone call and ask the service or parts rep. to make a recommendation for tints on your car... and bam, u'll get the place they go to. Let me know.

RIP OFF!!!!
I got the Lumar titanium tints and I paid about $190 something with tax. Lumar titanium doesn't use the same % scale as regular lumar tints. 38% is aoubt 35% and 32% is about 20%. The only difference is the heat reflection, nothing more. same looks.

The new ceramic tints have much better heat rejection without any degradation. You can use a lighter tint and still get better heat shielding results. Only problem is they have a tendency of "ghosting" on curved glass, ie: rear window! I had some installed on the back of my house that faces due west. It's amazing how much cooler those rooms are now due to the film!! The estimate to tint my TLS with this film was $400.00!!!( note: owner of the tint shop did offer me a discount after I payed premium $$$ for doing my house.
