Dealer Invoice

I was just sent a scan of a dealer invoice for a Type-S w/Navi. It was $29,950 + $480 destination, which jibes well with prior markups to MSRP. Any confirmations of this invoice price?

I was waiting to see what the invoice was on the Nav TL-S. This number does fall close to the mark up for the 2001's. The following are the numbers I came up with. Hope my figures are correct
2001 TL Base
Invoice: 25,736
Sticker: 28,550 Markup: 10.934%
2001 TL Nav
Invoice: 27,537
Sticker: 38,550 Markup: 10.942%
2002 TL-S Nav
Invoice: 29,950
Sticker: 33,230 Markup: 10.951%
Using this percentage, the invoice of the other 2002 models should be close to 90.13% of the MSRP.
Also, add $480 for destination to each figure.
------------------
1989 Acura Integra LS
1993 Honda Lawn Tractor
2000 Honda Rancher ES 4x4
2002 Acura TL-S (This Year)

Which dealer in the Palm Springs area did you go to?
Did you negotiate a final price on your TLS using the dealers invoice price as a starting point?
I live in the So Cal area and will be purchasing as soon as the market makes up its mind on the pricing. Seems a little volatile at this point. Any help is most appreciated.
One last thing: Have you heard of any dealers in the So Cal area besides yours that actually has the TLS in stock? It seems that the biggest car market in the world is the last to get them.
Great info overall, thanks for the post.

cat5joe: All of your figures are extremely close to the spreadsheet that I built.
Scotty: I start not from invoice but from dealer cost, which is invoice LESS the 2% holdback. I then offer 5% over dealer cost. We're not there yet but I am prepared to wait until September if I have to. Even though I want the car, I'm old, I'm stubborn and those are my terms.
There are 14 dealers within 100 miles of Palm Springs and I'll talk to all of them if I have to.

So here is how I figure it.
MSRP: $33,710 ex NAVI
Dealer Holdback: 2% or $674.20
Invoice: $30,430 incl dest charge
Less Dealer Holdback: $29,755.80 divided by .95(for profit) equals a whopping $31,321.89 for a TL S with NAVI. Sounds like a fair deal to me!

I calculate it a bit differently partly because the holdback is computed on the MSRP without destination...
MSRP: $33,230
2%: 665
Invoice: 29,950
Less Hldbk: (665)
Sub-total: 29,285
Plus 5%: 1,464
Plus Dest: 480
TOTAL: 31,229
That's my story and I'm sticking to it! Actually, this is the recommended method on carbuyingtips.com

Does anyone have any invoice pricing on underbody kit, spoiler, sim/wood steering wheel, sim/wood A/C vent, etc. Or any information on dealer labor to install these acc at delivery time. My dealer seems to have quite a markup on this in comparison to what I seen on this board.

I like your style. I too am "older" and stubborn and will gladly wait. Please keep us posted on your negotiations and where you end up finalizing your deal.
I too will go to all 14 dealers in So Cal for the best price!
Drive a little and save a lot is my motto. Besides after you get the car don't you really want a long drive home anyway?
I bet we all do...

TLSDave=> Is there any way you could scan the invoice for the 2002 TL-S and post it? My dealer is telling me that he won't go below $33K for the 2002 TL-S and below $28K for the 2001 TL. I know he's lying because my uncle got his 2001 in July last year for $27K. All prices are without Navi. I really want to get the TL-S so it would be great if you could post the invoice for it. Thanks man.
A co-worker of mine who used to be a car salesman himself told me that if he ever wanted to go buy a car. He would offer only $500 over invoice as a courtesy to the other salesman. He used to work for Autoland (Toyota Dealership) for many years. Now considering availibity and or demand the offer price may change a bit.

Anyway, here are the particulars: I let several dealerships know I was interested in purchasing a WDP/Parch. TL-S w/Navi at 5% over dealer cost (as computed above. The key was that I said (and meant) that I would wait until September if I had to. Got counter-offers and said, no thanks, I can wait. The banter began in earnest on Weds. and I picked up that car last evening...$31,230. (My earlier post was incorrect) LOVE THE CAR!
Hey TLSDave, thanks for all your help, could you post the scanned invoice whenever you get a chance to? Or send it to dcdomain@cmu.edu? I can wait until November (when my current lease runs out) for the car. I'll probably follow the path you took. Hopefully the tri-state dealers here will sell like the S. California dealers.

I second that request. I unfortunately can't wait until September like you were willing to do, as the lease on my car runs out in 45 days. I'm ready to start price shopping now, and any ammunition would certainly be helpful!
Thanks!

Hey Dave -
You seem hesitant to name the actual dealer you dealt with. Any reasons?
Are you just dangling carrots at us or was your deal for real?
Personally, I see no harm in you telling us who gave you the deal unless of course they'd come and kill you if you did (which wouldn't surprise me the way some dealers negotiate).
You've already educated us in how to do the fishin', now we just need to know what pond you went fishin' in.
My So Cal dealer was holding at sticker as of this writing.
Be a sport and help a fellow TL-S fanatic out would ya?

The following post is from Janda_Janda as to their purchase of a TL-S no Nav (listed elsewhere on this site under the title "It's possible to get the TL-S under list"). It looks like they got a deal at over $2K under MSRP, which is still about $1K over invoice (approximately). Maybe TLSDave isn't full of it after all......
Of course, we'll know for sure when he reads the last few posts on this topic
Hi everyone! OK here's the deal that we got:
2002 TL-S Silver/black no nav
from the sticker on the car:
$31,230
dest & handling $480
Total: $31,710
the deal:
$ 29,646.00 car
0.00 muds, trunktray, wheel locks
0.00 extra key
1,482.30 sales tax (MA 5%)
217.00 license & title & inspection
-500.00 factory to dealership
------------
30,845.30
not including, of course, the interest that we will pay on the loan (7% over 60 months - we put down $5500 no trade in)
purchased at clair in norwood (and they have at least one blue one)

Hi guys, sorry for the tardiness, I have read your posts but haven't had time to reply 'til now. I paid $31,230 for a TL-S with navi. My negotiations, as they were, are in earlier posts. I think the (internet) salesman sensed my honest willingness to be patient and got very aggressive. Your various posts about not budging from MSRP gave me strength.
I didn't quibble about the payment of (alleged) dealer cost for mud-guards, moonroof reflector (will that bring guffaws here?), wheel locks, and burlwood shift knob. Those DI options are not included in the above base price.
I have a copy of the invoice, which I will post (sans dealer name) when someone helps me with with the techonolgy (again, see earlier post).
Yes, I am reluctant to name the dealer at this time because the salesman said they only have a few 2002s (mine came in the day before I bought it) and he asked me to keep the info local. He took great care of me and I will respect his wishes.
If someone in SoCal would like to see the invoice and the Installment Sale Contract, I would be happy to show it to them in person to salvage credibility on this board.
I'm nearly 49 years old and have learned to mask my enthusiasm for a potential purchase although it was VERY difficult in this transaction. I LOVE the Car!
Bottom line, be very qualified to buy the car and then be patient. They will come around.

I'm just curious here.
How many keys do you get when you buy Acura TL-S? I see that someone had put extra key as negotiation. Don't they give you 2 set of keys? Also I suppose you don't get the floor mats either right?
It's been a while since I bought a new car.

Floor mats come with the car and my wife bought plastic ones to protect those. The car comes with two regular keys and one valet key that only works the ignition and the doors. You get two remotes labled one and two. #1 sets the driver seat and mirrors to #1 memory position and the second remote sets the them to #2 memory position.

Someone please help TLSDave with posting the INVOICE. I would love to help but I have little idea how to do it. I'm in desperate need of a copy of the invoice because my dealer won't budge.

TLS-Dave,
Ok I'm willing to drive to plam springs and make a freakin copy of the s*** cause my dealer would not bugde from MSRP and serveral other would not either. Remeber if you're not finacing with the dealer than they will jump the price or trading in the car. That's how they make there money back
And I will post it up in this board plus I'll get my freaking money back from the dealer. My dealer pay the cost difference for 30 or 90 days not sure but only had my ride for 1 week :P

What difference does a copy of the invoice do us?
We all know what the invoice price is and we know that Acura has a 2% dealer holdback.
Work the deal from those numbers. It's been posted on this very thread.
If the dealer won't budge, keep in mind that you have other options.
Some of you sound desperate which the dealer probably senses and that's why he won't budge.
Tell them you're going to Hual ARSE and see what they do.

As noted in another thread, Carsdirect.com now has pricing and my invoice figure is confirmed. They show $30,430 (TL-S w/Navi), which is $29,950 + $480 destination. As mentioned, I have a digital camera and Adobe Photoshop. If someone could provide instructions as to how to post a pic of my sales contract to confirm the price I paid, I will do it.

Hi, pls try this link...

I'm not sure what type of camera you have, but there is a section titled
"What are my options for transferring images to my computer?" in the FAQ
Hope this helps
thanks

Ok, take the photo, upload it to your computer and open it in Photoshop, I would crop it just to get rid of the none essential info, such as the borders and what not. You can crop by selecting the MARQUEE tool (top left) and selecting the part of the image you want to keep. Then do EDIT and CROP (could be IMAGE and crop, I forget). I wouldn't decrease the res since it's a digital photo in the first place and probably hard to read. I wish your scanner was up.
Anyway, afterwards, just make sure it's a gif or jpg, preferably jpg, just do save as and select jpg. If the option is not there, go to IMAGE and MODE, make sure it's RGB so you can save as jpg. Also make sure it's one layer, go to LAYER and FLATTEN IMAGE to flatten it. Aside from those two problems, you should be able to save as a jpeg.
You might also want to do FILTER and SHARPEN to sharpen the text...
Lastly, you can email it to me, dcdomain@cmu.edu and I'll help you post it on my server space at school. As a warning, I'm home for spring break right now, and on a dialup so it might take a while for me to upload. I'll be back at school Sunday afternoon.
The best thing to do however is to get it scanned. Digital photo quality doesn't match up to scanned images. I wish I could scan it for you...

Wow, your'e talking to someone who thought he was pretty saavy because he could write DOS batch files in the mid-80's. I'll let my wife deal with this photo stuff when she has time. Otherwise, my deal is getting support from recent posts by janda_janda and driver.
