I was at the Acura dealer yesterday and they had a cool 2001 TL on the floor. Comptech header, exhaust, springs, and 5-spoke wheels with 215/50-17's/ Black chrome insignias, and a TL Type S sticker on the right rear to boot. It looked nice. The service advisor told me that they based it on my car. I said they should pay me for my engineering time (kidding). You know what? He agreed, and said they would give me the warranty labor rate for the next mod I let them do labor on. Prett decent. It is Crown Acura in Richmond, Va.

putting a type S emblem on is misleading and RICE. the dealer's owner must be an idiot.

Will the Cl's Type S emblem fit in the space between my letters 3.2TL and the end of the trunk lid??? Cuz I dont want to have to move my 3.2TL emblem over just so the Type S emblem will fit. Also, How much will the emblem cost from the dealer???

Two thoughts:

1) That is kind of misleading of the dealer; it's not really in the same leauge as the CL-S and people should know that before they buy. It will also probably really hack the buyer of that car off if/when a 'real' TL-S comes out!

2) More importantly for the rest of us, good work! This is a positive step forward for getting warranty work done on modified cars, especially those using Comptech parts. Acura is a luxury marque, and it wouldn't sit well for one dealer to be spoiling the rest of the apples. That is to say, if this dealer can be allowed to do this by Acura (questionable), then other dealers will have to follow suit, at least with acknowledging that mods do not "void the warranty" as so many cracker service departments would try to have us believe.

Could you please tell us the name of that dealership?

Tommy what dealer are you talking about? I haven't taken my TL in for service yet but I used to take my Integra to Acura of Pompano Beach. It's way the hell out of the way, but they did warranty work for me all the time... didn't mind that the car was turbocharged at all. They always took good care of me.

Interesting responses.

1) Regarding the "idiot" dealer who is misleading people? They will give full disclosure to buyer and mark it on the Bill of Sale. That is not misleading at all. Some folks who have paid (as many of us have) thousands to bump up our cars like a little visual perk to stand out from the schoolteachers and retirees who but TL's because Consumer Reports says so.

2) The Type S will fit under the 3.2 TL. But on the car I saw, the dealer had removed the 3.2TL from the right side and moved it over to the left side, and put the Type S where the 3.2TL used to be. As I said, they did it in black chrome as well.

3) I think I paid $21 for the emblem - but they like me, remember, and I am in the trade as an auto journalist as well as engineer, so they like to keep me happy. Such are the Privileges of Rank! Hehehehe.
