When you guys change your tranny fluid what color is the old fluid? I did a drain and fill and the fluid was dark like old motor oil. This was the first change after tranny #2 was put in 10,000 miles ago. It was dark red when wiped with a paper towel and it didn't smell burnt or anything.

 

Color doesn't really mean that much. If it smelled burnt that would be a bad thing. The only thing that bothers me is that it shouldn't change color THAT much in 10k miles...

 

Are you sure its the tranny fluid you drained out and not the oil?

It looks like motor oil but it's tranny fluid.
The top part where the fluid splashed the walls of the container is dark red.
Do I need to do one or two more drain and fills?
It's been a little over a year since the tranny was replaced.
