D5 Light Flashing

Can someone tell me why the light (in my cluster) behind the "D5" flashes when I'm in that gear. It does this every once in a while and I don't know why!!

It could be acouple things. Id get it to the dealer as soon as possible to see whats wrong. Worst case scenario its the tranny. best case its something simple like a sensor (i had a tranny temp sensor go that caused the D5 to blink)

Well i would like to think by telling him it is the tranny he will be very releived if it is something small. And if it is the tranny maybe he will be mentally prepared in some way.

But there is still no need for people to come to the conclusion that its the tranny every time a dash light comes on. My 5 failures never had the D5 flashing Without the check engine and TCS lights on also

I am assuming probably because this has been a known symptom of tranny failure. As fsttyms1 said, it could be something else. But based on past experiences from other members, it could very likely be the tranny. And maybe my scaring him that will motivate him to bring it to the dealer that much quicker.

Yeah, I see what you're saying. No one really knows what's wrong with his car and just like you suggested that it may be a tranny temp sensor because that was your past experience, whereas for someone else, their past experience may have been the tranny being replaced as a result of the dash lights blinking. In your 5 instances it has never had blinking dash lights but there have been more than a handful of members who have had that problem. No biggie...I guess as along as we are telling him the possibilities of what could be wrong, he will have an idea of what to expect when he does bring it in to the dealer.

I never said it they wernt blinking. He said just his D5 was blinking. When all of mine went the D5 would blink, BUT the TCS and Check Engine would come on also, not JUST the D5. Im not aware of any one wlse that had just the D5 blinking when theirs died. When the tranny goes you get the Christmas Tree of lights. Not just 1

I guess it could be a problem with the gearshift position switch in the center console... If that has intermittent contact the D5 light would go on and off - but it wouldn't be consistent.

Good luck.

the only time my D5 started blinking was because my shifter was between D4 and D5. so maybe that was the problem.
