D5 Light

Hey guys, I just noticed something kind of wierd with my car that I never noticed before. When starting your car, is your D5 light lit then goes out? Mine didn't do it before and I just noticed it today. BTW, I have an 03 TL-S.

Nope, it stays on. Also '03 TL-S. The gear indicator should always be lit.

Hmm, on my car, when I switch to ignition, D5 is only lit for a second and it's off. But P will stay on.

Pure Adrenaline, maybe that's one of the differences between TL-P & TL-S. j/k

I've seen this in older cars but sometimes the shifter is not aligned properly with the gearing, so when you shift in to D5 it may not light up until you push or pull it a little bit. if anyone knows what i mean good. if not basically it could be wear n tear causing the shifter not to align properly

I know exactly what you're talking about. Mine has been doing that ever since I got the last tranny put in. In fact, the dealer thought my lever position sensor was broken, so they put in a new one. It's probably just an adjustment - but it only happens when switching from D4 to D5 so I'm not too concerned.

Wait, are we talking about after start-up, and still in Park? Then no, my D5 light is not on, until I shift it into D5.

Yea, when you initially start the car, my D5 light is lit then goes out. Its always lit when in D5 but I am talking about when turning the key, the D5 light comes on then goes out. With a more detailed explanation, am I the only one experiencing this?

Hi.my car does that too... Only when I turn the ignition. Is that a signal of a bad transmission?

I have seen many TLs lighting up the D5 when starting the engine.. Mine does it too, I think its normal ECU checking up the trans when started.

Whoah! Blast from the threaded past!!! So i'm in the middle of a double din nav install to replace the factory bose POS. My GF drove my car awhile back and of course Mountain Dew went down into the shifter so while I had the console out I took out the shifter as well to clean and lube it. The shifter has a bolt that goes through an oblong loop on the end of the shift cable. Best way I see to adjust it that I can see is while the center console is out put car in drive (NOT running of course) so that the bolt is close to the middle of the loop then tighten down the nut that clamps the loop to the shifter bolt. Of course if your car has more or less wear you could move the bolt forward or back to compensate..... Just my
