Cruise Control Issue
Cruise Control Issue
Greetings to the list,
I have a problem with the cruise control on my 2000 TL. When I went to set it last night, all the associated indicator lights were lit in the correct manner, but after I released the set/decelerate button, my TL lost speed (from the initial 65 mph) to the point where it downshifted on it's own.
I thought maybe it was a procedural thing last night, so I tried it again today- same result.
I then disconnected the battery for about an hour (in the hopes of 'resetting' the memory). No go- same result.
I now ask you, the members of this list- why would it be doing this?
Is there a procedure to clear the tranny memory (my Dodge Ram had this ability, but I don't know if the Acura has it or not).
I've already checked the fuse- it's OK.
I'm open for suggestions and appreciate any kind of help.

Check the cruise control cable. It's the black line that comes from a black box from the passenger side, around the front of the engine, and into the throttle body. If it's loose, then it won't hold speed.
Pure Andrenaline,
Thanks- I'll definitely take a look at this.
I appreciate the reply.

I popped off the cover of the black box and saw that there was about 3 inches of slack in the cable. Hmmm, I said. I undid the slack and went to the throttle body end. I saw that the other end of the cable was free and not attached to the the throttle body.
I couldn't get into it anymore due to time constraints at work (and not having any tools to pop off the engine cover).
Thanks for the suggestion- that was definitely the problem. But now I have to ask: why/how did it get unattached?
Stay tuned; I'll be investigating this issue after work.
Thanks again,
Czar
Eh, it just happens. I've had the same problem with my cars in the past.
Good luck fixing it, and remember that it does need some slack in the cable. Don't make it too tight.

I had to go to Sears and buy some Metric wrenches ("A justifiable purchase" I told my wife
). (I've been wanting a set for awhile.)I took out a bit of slack on the mounting bracket, but it's not real tight. I'll let you know how it works tomorrow after work.
Again, thank you very much for the reply and the help- I definitely appreciate it.
Much Respect,
Czar
