That's pretty low but the TL does get lousy MPG in stop and go driving.

Have you been checking your fuel economy with every fill up? If so, have you seen MPG numbers like that before?

If you know, what MPG did you get with the previous fill-up? If you didn't fill the tank all the way, that can throw off your MPG calculations for both fill-ups.

And there are a ton of items that can affect your fuel economy; driving habits, tire pressure, clogged air filter, fouled spark plugs and the list goes on.

Finally, and this may be a longshot, but is there any chance you were a victim of gas siphoning? That's apparently happening a lot more frequently with the super high gas prices.

Bob

I get 24mpg in town.....but sometimes over 32mpg on the hwy...even driving at 70mph. The TL seems to be very sensitive to stop and go driving. BTW...I've got a 6mt if that matters....and I try to keep the RPM below 3K around town.

I get 28mph in the summer months with mixed driving. it sounds like you need some maintenance if you're only getting 12mpg. that is far too low unless you're towing something uphill LOL.

I would also like to add, it's entirely possible that you are getting really shitty gas, despite it being 93, it's still possible the quality is poor.

Don't know what your saying because im stupid but I went from a 97 grand cherokee v6 rwd to this car so Its a big difference in speed. I still love how fast this car is everytime I even accelerate im just tempted to floor it. But I dont drive highway at all so that doesnt help.

If you only use it on short trips, that'll kill the mileage, too.
To test it, do a 50-100 mile freeway trip at about the speed limit with the cruise control, filling up right before you get on the freeway, and then refilling at the same pump when you get back. You should get about 30 mpg.

thz for the replies guys.
I gotta admit im not the best drivers out there lol but i dun floor my car lol
just got new spark plugs, filter, oil change and the 60k service done
uhh i have always used shell v power 91 (thats the highest here i think), when i tried 89 or 87 i get even lower mpg lol
Ye its true i drive a lot of short trips (school, home etc <10 miles, probably 4 times a day), so i guess startin n stopping the car prolly kills the mpg
I did a 500 mile drive once (~90mph all the way) and i get around 26 27 mpg.

Regarding Seafoam, i duno much about cars and i've read on the forum some pplz having problems doing it, so any comments on the difficulty?? Has anyone had successful stories with fuel cleaner????

From the EPA:
"...The Highway Fuel Economy Dynamometer Procedure (HFET) is designated to simulate non-metropolitan driving with an average speed of 48.6 mph and a maximum speed of 60 mph. The cycle is 10.2 miles long with 0.2 stop per mile and consists of warmed-up vehicle operation on a chassis dynamometer through a specified driving cycle."

they go very far into getting the vehicle in just the right temp and on flat ground and also on a dynometer with cruise control to calculate MPG and they DO NOT consider the warm up of the car part of the MPG equation!! That's why no one will consistently see the EPA rated MPG numbers when driving.

The car's fine.
Short trips = live with bad mileage.

short trips are going to be the worst possible miles for mileage

seafoaming is very easy. you can just go search no youtube and put seafoam and theres like videos of people teaching you how to do it yourself

Damn, dood! 28mph? I can go faster than that on my bicycle...unlimited mpg too!

Eh- couldn't resist.

I know some folks on here are very pro-seafoam, but it probably won't help much in your case. 26-27 mpg is pretty good for how fast you were going. On the other hand, if it's been a while (years) since that trip, and you've only been taking short trips since, it might help some; you might have some carbon and deposit build-up. Don't expect big improvements, though.
