Crashed tonight :-(

Hey all,

well it happened :-(

it's not terrible, I will fix it, but it's going to cost me...driving home from the Siena Men's Bball game, have a big turn, slowed down to take it. the brakes locked, the car went straight and I hit a street sign.

Luckily, the damage wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. So I don't have a front bumper anymore, and my passenger headlight is cracked (but it works weirdly enough) otherwise the engine is fine.

so yeah, merry christmas all

the brakes locked???? realllly? Did you hit oil or what--
ABS should have worked IF you had your foot buried on the brakes--otherwise you are on your own

TCS traction control, only works below 16mph 25kph
Its to assist on icy road starts

Thanks for the info. I thought the traction control system would assist with higher speed cornering as well, if the driver was not able to react quickly enough to wheel spin.

Whenever I launch from a stop on completely dry road, my TCS light goes off. Is this normal?

TCS only prevents wheel spin, it does not do independent braking to readjust your intended direction. That would be VSA's job.

And yes, that is normal if you're doing a hard launch and perhaps have crappy tires or you're flooring it.

VSA? Violin Society of America?

Depending on the car, TCS can reduce fuel supply, retard spark to a cylinder, or even brake one or more wheels. According to Wiki, at least. Also, I'm using Goodyear Eagle GT tires. Best performance tires I could get, according to Tire Rack. The TCS light bothers me when I floor it, as I hear/feel it only affecting the front right tire. This leads me to believe that there is uneven torque being delivered to the right and left wheel, which is not optimal when driving straight. Do you know if our cars apply TCS via brake, throttle cut, or both? Either way, thanks for the info.

TCS in your car is done through braking only.

VSA = Vehicle Stability Assist which does independently brake each wheel to reduce understeer or oversteer.

Hey all, just for clarification my abs and tcs were on the fritz, check out my older threads. I qasactually going to drop it off at the mechanics today before I left for the holidays.
I'll be back the 27th, the car isn't as bad as it could have been. Yeah its missing a front bumper and the passenger headlight is out, but I was planning on installing my cleared lights so I'm not out too much cash on that

The mechanic will have to tell me if anything else is wrong and obviously the abs has to be fixed (wheel speed sensor)

I'm optimistic even though I'm stuck in the airport!

And yeah I was going about 40/45 and it was cold and there was a bit of ice. That and I should have known better a car totalled on that curve the other day at least the to moved on its own power and had zero engine damage, purely cosmetic based on how it drove home.

So if anyone in ny can get me a good deal on a front bumper, you know someone who is interested =)

ahhh the ol driving in the ice with ABS broken,,that'll cut your day short!!

ck tire pressure for launch issues- and stop drag racing the TL on the street~

TCS rapidly applies brake on and off to the faster spinning wheel until it matches other wheel speed -based on sensor readings
Dash light comes on when its active

^thanks man, yeah not too long. i can theoretically drive it as it is, but that would be dumb. lol

I have to find a cheap bumper that's in good condition that I can sand down and repaint it NBP.

and i'll install the new headlights.

^n1njai, what type of damage? my bumper has some paint scrapes.

I'm going to be painting it so if it is superficial scratches (not deep) then I guess it could theoretically work

That's a shame man, at least it was a minor crash and not your tranny giving out! That would certainly be a worse Christmas "present". Hopefully you can sort this out soon and have your car looking good again. Hey at least it's winter so it doesn't matter if your ride is looking mint or not. Well at least in stormy areas like mine. I try to keep it "clean" but that's a different type of clean in the winter.

As Promised....The Pictures

And what she's supposed to look like:

So like I said, not too bad. it's gonna cost around $400 to get her back in shape. but I love the car too much to not do it.

First accident btw. 10 years strong
