Edgalang:

We got 2 inches of snow this morning (first in 20 years), here in the Sacramento valley, so, with all the moisture in the ground, and the very cold conditions over night, the black ice scenario doesn't look all that far-fetched to me. Anyway, good luck and I'm also glad to hear that you're OK.

The thing is that it wasn't raining and maybe it would of been better that it was because then maybe I wouldnt of been so confident about the handling and slowed myself down. As for a total loss, I'm placing myself at the mercy of my insurance agency and hope that it's not, since I'm figuring that the worst case scenario be that they claim a total loss and I'd be out al least 10 grand since they'll place it at blue book value and all my mods will have gone to waste. But looking at the damages...it would seem like its alot because I have a broken rear axle, and bent frame.
i still feel bad man~
man i cant imagine how your car looks crashed.......it was such a nice car~
as long as your okay~~~man...alot of people here care for you bro~~ hope everything works out for you~

There is some misinformation on when you're car gets totalled by you're insurers. The calculation is as follows:

Actual cash value + salvage value is > repairs = No total.
Actual cash value + salvage value is < repairs = Total loss.

Actual cash value is determined based on book values, values in the newspapers etc. for the average mileage and condition vehicle, and deductions or additions if the condition and mileage are better or less than the average vehicle.

Our Civic got written off by the insurance company after it got smashed b/c the cost for repair was more than the residual value of the car at the end of the lease.
edgalang, I hope everything works out for you.

I'm so sorry to hear about your misfortune, but it sounds like god was watching out for you. I've enjoyed your posts over the last year, and you will be missed on this board. Have a speedy recovery and good luck with the insurance company.

Glad that you are ok. Sometimes I get a little complacent while driving, but deep down I know that one little tire blow-out or any kind of mechanical disaster can cause an accident, regardelss of how well I am driving. All we can do is just be as cautious and aware of our surroundings as possible to minimize the damage a potential accident could cause.

It's been a week since the accident...but for some reason I can't stay away from this site. I guess that's what I get for making it my startup page Anyways, I hope to keep all of you guys posted since a friend of mine is letting me borrow his digicam tomorrow and I'll be able to take pics of it by Tuesday. The body shop and insurance adjuster is still debating about it, but from the looks of it, I think they might total everything since apperantly the entire frame is twisted. No solid answers of yet though. Man, you dont realize what you got till you loose it. If I lost my girl...I KNOW i'd be going wacko!

BTW...thanks for all of the support guys! I didn't realize how many people would read this thread.

Bristol West Prima/Coast National Insurance. My car is parked at Experience Auto Body in Oakland right off the 23rd street exit. It should be covered in white tarp to prevent rain from getting in.

I just talked to Oakland Acura about my situation today and since there isn't a Kelly Blue Book value on 2002 TLS yet, they offered to be a source of information in case the insurance ever needs to ask anything about prices. But...from the looks of it, and judging depreciation to be $0.15 a mile, the dealer told me that my car should be valued around 32k with the body kit and accesories. I still owe around 30k to my credit union so as long as they will match that, I'm sure I'll be financially ok.

BTW...for those that don't know. I'm a 25 year old IT-Tech guy that got recently laid off. Ouch! I know Mark me off as a statistic of being in the age group that gets involved in most car accidents.

Edgalang,

Ouch.. That sucks being laid off. Hey, maybe you could try to get a job with the government. There is some real job security there, i should know, I work for them. Hope everything works out allright, and I hope that you are able to find a job soon. Good luck man...

I have a ex-coworker that works at your insurance company. From her experience, they do not treat their insureds that well. If your car is considered a total loss, the insurance company usually use an independent source to do a survey as to how much your car was selling for in the general area. If they cannot find an exact model, they will do some adjustments to it. For things like body kit and aftermarket products, some insurance company won't take those into considerations. You better check with your insurance company on that. Bristol is considered one of the low cost insurance company, and they usually do not cover aftermarket parts added to the vehicle. They usually make you disclose of the aftermarket parts and add a premium to it.

I feel your pain...almost. My car isn't being totalled for sure. But I would need some frame work(mainly replacement of dented, slightly bent portions).

Damn, dude. After seeing that, I'm glad you're OK. I'm not sure if you mentioned it, but did the side air bags go off? (looking at the seat, it doesn't look like it did) I hope it all works out in the end. We're glad you made it. That's what really matters. You'll bounce back.

The Shift Knob (Momo Race Airleather) in it's final glory. When in D1/D2 there is virtually no handle. Just a knob sticking staight out of the gates.

My Twisted driver's seat. When normal, I had it exactly where the passanger seat is at. So by comparing the seats side by side, this pic should be able to show how I twisted and bent the seat waaaay back. This was the moment where my glasses fell off my face, and I was basically spinning around blind.

whoa!

Glad everyone is ok. I would definately consider that car totalled because it looks like the roof buckled and the frame is most likely bent....

My final goodbye to the interior before leaving. The garage I took it to did me a favor by "emptying" all my stuff in box. Too bad they decided to "empty" my 10 dollars worth of quarters I had in a coin purse as well, as too with my digital tire guage and my torque wrench. F*cking bastard....sorry...but I've been bitter lately. BTW....I took the knob out. If those fools took it before I got there I would of bashed heads in!

A closeup of the 3A Exhuast Tips. VERY good quality. Even with the abuse it's been through, it still shines like new. Get them from Tim (aka Snook78...er I cant remember.......just snook). These are 3x9 and are straight cut. If I HAD a bumper, I could of shown how flush they are to the kit. BTW I didnt touch a thing. I took these pictures as is, so this kinda shows how much the mufflers are hanging by.

I think this picture should explain my color logic. Now do you folks know why I chose red calipers? heh heh. If I didnt have the Injen, I would of gone black personally. It would of made the paint process easier too. Just hold back and spray...who cares if you get the paint all over the place....you want black everything anyways right?
