Cost of Tranny ????
Cost of Tranny ????
I am just curious ...
what's the cost of fixing a tranny after our extension warrantee ran out ?
I meant i heard it's over $5k. That's alot for a tranny, isn't it ? Does anyone know how much beside the dealer, like if you brought it outside.

one guy said he paid $2500 from AAmco. I have heard that through Acura, its $4500. But Acura wont repair your existing one, they will only sell and install a refurb. I assume an outside tranny shop will open up and repair your existing one.
Thanks 2002acuraTL ....
Reason I asked because i would like to keep my car a very long time. So if it's only a couple grand then I could consider keeping it and repair the tranny when it's gone. But if it's around 4-5K and up then i have to consider trading in my car for something else before the warantee expire.

Yeah, I am racking up crazy miles on my 2002 TL. Its up to 39k and its not even 2 years old. I figure i will hit 100k in 3 more years. Since i already had the tranny replacement at 32k, and my tranny has the supposedly corrected 3rd gear clutch pak, that gives me a total of 68k miles to see if the tranny really is fixed before i run over the 100k warranty extension. If all is stil good by then, I'll probably hold onto the car til i hit 135-150k miles. If my tranny had NOT failed to begin with, i would definitely sell it before i reached the 100k warranty because i am certain its only a matter of time before everyone's tranny 3rd gear craps out.
Yeah i just serviced mine at AAMCO like the above said. Acura was asking $5K+... NO WAY JOSE!!
I took it to AAMCO and it runs like silk. Not one problem. It cost me $2539.50 on the dot and that is including the LIFETIME UNLIMITED MILEAGE WARRANTY!!! Never have to pay for parts or labor. Just a $100 deductible.
They will also check your tranny as a provisional once a year to make sure things are A OK for FREE!!
Hope that helps. So keep running your miles.....I'm at 90K

Sorry, but I've never heard anything but BAD things about AAMCO. I knew a few people that got trannys there. Lesson learned is that if you have a car with a bad tranny take it to AAMCO to get it fixed cheap and then dump the car ASAP.
Who's 5-speed tranny do they put in?

My 99 was jerking from 2nd to 3 rd and was out of warranty, I brought it back to the dealer where I bought it. They asked me about maintainance record ( receipt where I have my tranny oil changed) but I told them I could not proof it. They tried to flush it to solve the problem ($120.00). But no luck, so they make a deal with me. They replaced a rebuilt tranny ( 12 months warranty) and I pay only for the labor ($700.00). It has about 10,000 miles on it now and still good, almost time for a tranny oil change.
