cost of ball joints

I was asking cause i had the some problem about 3 months ago, it was covered by the warranty, i don't think it would cost that much, but if you take it to the dealership expect to pay a pretty penny

Speaking of ball joints. Do the upper joints go bad as much as the lower? I was thinking about replacing them when I do my strut replacement. They look easy enough to replace.

What part is the knucles and bearings?

Part # 1 is the knuckle
the bearing goes in the middle of the knuckle opening for the half shaft
The question is why would the replace that for teh ball joints

I just had my lower ball joint replaced (upper ball joints usually never go bad on our cars) by a local mechanic (not Acura dealer). Sometimes Acura pulls a scam and sells you a lower ball joint together with a knuckle, this is not necessary. You can buy a ball joint separately. In fact, you can get an after market lower ball joint for $30-40. There is no need to go with Honda ball-joint, I had a mechanic do mine for $140 labor plus $40 for a part, $190 total.
I am actually excited about trying non-Honda ball joint, because it is a 4th !!! time my car had a lower ball joint replaced. This is the first time I have non-Honda ball joint, I wonder if it will last longer. I think Honda ball joints suck big time.... well, time will tell..
I am definatly not going to the dealer anymore, they typically charge ~$500 to replace ball joint, any reputable shop will do it for half price or less.

My personal oppinion that those things tend to go bad more from time than miles. Also humidity and rain play some role... the ruber gets dry or something like that.

So how is your after market ball-joint, any difference with the Honda ?
Mine works great, and I am happy I saved lat least $200 by not going to the dealer...
when they go bad, you get anoying squaking sound when you turn your steering wheel (even while car is parked).
