I was asking cause i had the some problem about 3 months ago, it was covered by the warranty, i don't think it would cost that much, but if you take it to the dealership expect to pay a pretty penny

Where did you get this quote, from the dealer? I got my lower for 50 Cdn at the dealer here in London.
Speaking of ball joints. Do the upper joints go bad as much as the lower? I was thinking about replacing them when I do my strut replacement. They look easy enough to replace.

From a friends auto parts store 80 bucks for the upper and 34 for lower,if i do all 4 it'll cost about 300 bucks for parts and labour, not bad compared to what Acura wants(420+labour)

You said:"They replaced both knuckles and bearings, replaced both lower ball joints, and did a wheel alignment...total cost was 1046.15, all covered by warranty..

The car is riding great now, i'm very happy with the service."
What part is the knucles and bearings?

Part # 1 is the knuckle
the bearing goes in the middle of the knuckle opening for the half shaft

The question is why would the replace that for teh ball joints

I just had my lower ball joint replaced (upper ball joints usually never go bad on our cars) by a local mechanic (not Acura dealer). Sometimes Acura pulls a scam and sells you a lower ball joint together with a knuckle, this is not necessary. You can buy a ball joint separately. In fact, you can get an after market lower ball joint for $30-40. There is no need to go with Honda ball-joint, I had a mechanic do mine for $140 labor plus $40 for a part, $190 total.

I am actually excited about trying non-Honda ball joint, because it is a 4th !!! time my car had a lower ball joint replaced. This is the first time I have non-Honda ball joint, I wonder if it will last longer. I think Honda ball joints suck big time.... well, time will tell..

I am definatly not going to the dealer anymore, they typically charge ~$500 to replace ball joint, any reputable shop will do it for half price or less.

Maybe on TL lower ball joints don't go bad as offten, but it seems to be a common problem (judging by number of posts) for 01-03 CLs. I personally had 1 lower ball joint replaced on passenger side, and this is my 3rd on driver side.
So far my after market ball joint works great....

I dont think its that common a problem. we really havent had that many members with issues. and the TL and CL share the same ones.

I did a search on both CL and TL forums, you will get some number of posts about ball-joints.. Its not a disaster, but its not uncommon to have bad lower ball joints on CL/TL. Just like motor mounts... those things do go bad...

I also have non-Honda lower ball joint (not sure what brand), but it looks identical to the Honda ball joint on the other wheel, just slightly different color. It works great too.
My personal oppinion that those things tend to go bad more from time than miles. Also humidity and rain play some role... the ruber gets dry or something like that.

Yes, pot-holes, bumpy roads....
So how is your after market ball-joint, any difference with the Honda ?
Mine works great, and I am happy I saved lat least $200 by not going to the dealer...

when they go bad, you get anoying squaking sound when you turn your steering wheel (even while car is parked).

All 4? I thought we only have two lower ball joints (left and right side fronty).
Did you also replace upper ball joints? Uppers usually never go bad.,
