cool valentine remote display idea

I was looking for a cool place to put my remote display and I came up with putting the display in the middle of the tray above the radio. Has anyone tried this?? I figure to do this I must first run the remote display over a table top belt sander because it is to tall to fit in the area. I only need to shave off a bit. (aside from the lights the remote doesn't have sensitive electronics so the vibration shouldn't hurt it). Next I will take the tray, measure off the middle, and use a bandsaw to cut out the area for the display to fit in. (I want to call the dealer and find out how much for a new tray if I ruin it). Then, glue plastic bars to the side of the display to help attach it to the drawer and run the wires through the back. Think this could work? In my 1995 Jetta GLX I actually used the switch covers in the middle of the dash, where the Euro model had the power locks, shaved the plastic and glued it in the dash. Everyone thought it was an expensive custom job. Then to mute it you can just reach right over to. I can't do this for a month because my father has the shop in Mass with the tools. Anyone want to try it first?????????????
