Connecting rear sub to new HU

The Helm's manual identifies the rear sub amplifier as a stereo unit but the inputs from the equalizer are labeled as bass+ and bass-. Is this actually a combined left/right channel input from the equalizer or is one left & one right?

I am planning to attach this sub to my new head unit until I can afford to buy something better. The HU has sub output RCA connectors. If the sub amp uses a combined input, I was thinking about combining the HU RCA outputs, running an RCA cable to the rear sub then splicing it to the bass + & - wires. Am I thinking right here?

I finally found the thread but one question wasn't answered. Should I combine the left & right sub outputs from my new HU or just use one of the channels? Thanks.
