Concerns!

hey guys i have some concerns with my new TL. (stock)

1)I was wondering if my 2000 TL is suppose to be big on gas..how far can u guys with a full tank..im canadian..how much should i be able to go (km's) with a full/half tank.

2)Second, my engine seems to heat up alot while i drive...no light comes up on my dash board but i sometimes can feel the heat while i drive..i was thinking about getting a cold air intake..but just wanted to ask some ppl why this might be happening..its not hot hot, but it hotter than other cars i see..

if ppl can help me with this, it would be soo helpful thank you

I average about 24 mpg. Little less commuting, little more on road trips. You'll have to figure out the km conversion yourself. Other people get different mileage depending on how they drive, etc.

And I really don't understand what you're talking about with the engine running hot. Is your temperture gauge rising? If it's hot in the cabin - turn on the air conditioner?? I'm kind of a noob, but I'm pretty sure a cold air intake will have nothing to do with how hot or cold your engine runs.

What are you used to normally driving? You've got a bigger engine up front.
Cant say I feel the heat while I am drving, lol... And mine is about normal to other cars.

My temp needle is normally at one or two needle widths below half, and we have some hot days here in FL and it never goes about that.

Also I average about 22-24mpg city and about 30 all highway.

messing around ill get 250 to a tank, driving normal..under 3k rpms... around 350

dunno about the heat thing, if the gauge is no above halfway your good, another thing, even if you ac/heat is of, make sure you put it to a cooler temp, ive noticed the heat thing too, mainly because my climate control was set at 90 then i turned it off, got hot, so i turned it back on and set it to 60 then turned it off again, stopped blowing hotter air, i dunno shut up

I did a lot of highway driving in the last month and I got 609 kms and the gas light was on. When I'm driving in the city I get about 370kms to 450kms depending on how hard I drive it.
I also fill the tank right up, after the pump auto shuts off ....I can continue to put in quite a few more litres as long as I fill slowly.

OK, with the heat... Try pushing that button on your deck that looks like an arrow pointing out of the car, or kind of circling from out of the car, Push that and the light will come on, that basically stops the Vented Air from comming in, other than that. i cant tell you.

So with a 17 gallon tank, when the fuel light goes on the is still about 5 gallons left in the tank??? That sounds like a lot of reserve fuel....over 100 miles worth of driving with the light on?

IllTL,

you should be getting something close to 12 litres/100km or (20MPA) depending on your dirving habits
so a fillup of 15gallons (56litres) should go for about ~470 km or ~300 miles.

check out your radiator for the heat, as long as the needle is satying below half gage you are ok. does the fan go off once in a while to cool off the radiator??

I can normally get anywhere between 450-550kms until the light turns on depending on how I drive of course. Maybe it was just me but I got better fuel economy when using shell 91 rather than sunoco 93.

As far as the heat is concerned I notice the same thing on my car. My temp needle is below the half way mark but the car definately feels different... but I dont think its anything to worry about.

When my light comes on, I can put in 14 gallons, not 12. When it reads E there are about 3 gallons left. At least that seems to be the generally accepted information.

When the light comes on we have 3 gallons left hence the 14 gallons you can put in when the light comes on putting the total at 17 gallons. What do you mean by when it reads E there are about 3 gallons left? Do you mean what I just said?

I average about 25mpg driving normally (60 city/40 freeway), I get about 21mpg driving hard, about 320 miles for 15 gallons. 100% freeway gets me a little over 30mpg.

the needle should never move on the tl. once at normal operating temp it never moves. The cooling system on the tl is a good one. you will also notice that the fans on the tl cycle on and off alot. its normal.

as for the mileage. just like the others have said. its a 17 gallon tank, when the light comes on there are aprox 3 gallons left
