Comptech VS OBX

Are the OBX headers just as good as the comptechs..?? I don't see how they can be, because they are so much less money. I'm confused, could anyone help me out here????

click the search on the left and type in OBX

You'll get more info and more details than any of us want to type

I thought a while ago the minimum search string was three and now it is 4. Has it been 4 all along? If not, why the change?

short answer...they knocked off the comptech design. comptech put thousands and thousands of $'s in R&D, OBX bought a set of comptech headers and remade them in a cheaper version.

comptechs are stainless steel throughout, OBX are stainless steel coated.

power gains are 99% equal.

long answer, do a search, there's been probably 100 threads on this topic with much more detail.

Too manu people so far have gotton the OBX instead of the Comptech. No problems yet by anyone here.

Becides, for $330 on eBay, if they do crack after a year or 2, just go get another one. Still cheaper than 1 Comptech.

Does anyone here have any comments about Stone Racing headers? This was posted on both ACL and the other site. Stone headers are supposed to be 100% stainless steel.

They do on non-type S models. The 30hp gains is only on the type S model. BTW the those gains are only over 5.5k rpm's in either model.

Take a look at Comptech's site. Their dyno on a 1999 yielded around an additional 16HP at 6000RPM over stock and around 18HP at 6750RPM. The increase in HP on the S type motor is +30HP from what others have posted.

OBX performance should be pretty close. With Comptech, you're paying for a higher quality header (thicker piping, smoother welds, no install problems, better stainless material, thicker flanges, no resonance issues). I'm in CA so the Comptech CARB certification made a difference but I also bought used for a bit over $600.
