Thumbs up Comptech sways installed (pics)

Whew! Just finished putting in the sways. Getting the front bar over the exhaust was a little tricky (like working on a tavern puzzle). But overall the entire install was really simple. Took me a little over 2.5 hours - this included getting the tools and parts together, jacking up the car, waiting for WD-40 to loosen some of the bolts, talking to 1 nosey neighbor and photo-taking. Photos and notes of the install can be seen HERE.

The test drive was a little noisy from the squealing of tires (note to self: need new tires soon) . The car was flat going into corners and what a great feeling that was. Body roll was drastically reduced. Going over bumpy roads is definitely noticable but not bad at all. In short, the bars are bloody amazing!

Thumbs up

Wow eujinc - really nice job documenting the install! We appreciate it! The Comptech sways do not come with new endlink nut & bolts, correct? I've been contemplating getting them for over a year

Forum Moderator: Please move this thread to Installation Instrcution FAQ please? Thanks - Jake

good documentation

question: why would bumps be more noticable? you installed sways not springs. that doesn't make too much sense to me.

I have always thought that pics were a great idea for when people do installation jobs. That way if anyone tries it, they aren't just reading instructions but get visual as well.

Great Job.

Glad you guys found this useful. The sways come with new brackets, bushings and bolts for only the rear bar. Since the front bar is exactly the same size as the OEM bar, the brackets, bushings and bolts for the front are reused. Someone suggested to use a little bit of the sway bar lubricant on the front bushings as well, which I did since I have already taken it apart. The lubricant by the way, is not grease. I'm not sure what it is but it's white and real sticky like glue and rather thick.

Question

SO you get new end-link bolts for the rear bar, not the front? Thanks.

With the Comptech sways, instead of the smooth boat-like ride of a stock TL, the new sways do transfer some of the bumps that would have been absorbed by the independent suspension setup. Btw, I do have springs as well so bumps are a little more noticable but to me the ride comfort did not degrade at all.

Comparing this to my previous car which had a set of Suspension Techniques sways, the Comptech setup feels very stock-like. The ST set used polyurethane bushings and end-links for both front and rear. Very solid and flat and a real thrill in the corners but the ride over bumpy roads was very much noticable and rough. Essentially, the bars were transferring a lot of the bumps from one side of the car to the other side - kinda acting like a solid axle and defeating the comforts of the independent suspension setup.

Actually, the bolts that come with the sways are for the rear brackets only. I should have clarified that the end-link bolts are actually connected to the end-links in what seems to be some sort of universal joint (this helps to move the bolt around in order to install the new bar). You are actually removing the end-link nuts in order to get the bar out.

The stuff feels and looks like really stick vaseline......
TL-Daddy. The end links are not supplied, only the rear bracket(and bolts) and bushing. Comptech says the stock front rubber bushings are sufficient to use with their sways, so no other bushing is supplied..At first I reallt felt a difference... It's so transparent now, It's hard to feel.. although it is a LOT better than stock..
