Comptech springs... yes or no??
Hey guys,
im lookin to install Comptech Sport springs that lower 1" rear and 1.25" front. (Comptech Part # 110-135). What do you think? should i go for it or is the stiff ride not worth it? Any other suggestions for a different set of springs/different company?? Anybody with personal experiences please let me know..
Thanks very much

Can I also join in on this question?
I see many peple get H&R. I like how it lowes the car 1.75F and 1.5R
After installation of comptech, is it much noticable in height?
I love my TL-S and I just want to get rid of that wheel gap without loosing anything. I love how BMW and someother cars come with perfect wheel gap.

I've had Comptech Springs for awhile now. I installed it probably 2-3 months ago so I think the springs have settled.
I can tell you this from my personal experience, the drop is very noticeable at first...then all of a sudden you start seeing other lowered cars, or especially people on this site who has H&R Sport Springs, do you start questioning whether your car is actually dropped or not. Only when you see a stock TL do you realize that, yes, my car is dropped.
The front I think gives a perfect drop; however, the back is hideously sitting high. I mean, the darn thing looks practically stock as if it hadn't been dropped with the Comptech.
Ride comfort and handibility are definitely worth mentioning though. It's amazing the level of difference these springs bring out of the car. I was litterally in awe when I drove it off the auto lot after having it installed--handling was terrific. The ride is stiffer, yes, but to be honest I like it this way than stock. I can't imagine going back to original specs. When you go over bumps, the car bounces just slightly. Call me crazy, but I like it this way.
You will never bottom out with the car. I mean, unless you are a maniac doing 40 MPH over dips, then you will. But in all likely hood, your car will have sufficient clearance in the front to avoid any scrapping. Also, it's important to point out that on "most" parking curbs, your car will also clear it. I wonder how the H&R Sports people park because our cars can't turn worth a penny. I guess you have to back up and forth to park just right so that your front lip does not graze the parking curb.
Okay, sorry this has been long enough. Now time for my final judgement. Would I recommend this product to you? My answer is, yes and no. Yes, because you basically don't have to worry about scrapping and bottoming out, and if you like the stock setup, you'll definitely not feel much difference even though I alluded to the fact that the ride is more stiff--it's almost comparable to stock springs. No, because once you start seeing the nice drop of the H&R Sport Springs that it produce, you'll regret like me. You will wish that you went with that setup instead where you will achieve an even drop all around.
Also, H&R Sports are actually a lot cheaper than Comptech so that is something to consider. I regret not getting the H&R Sports, but it's too late to switch now. This is something I thought long and hard on, so I suggest you do the same before you make your final decision. Hope this helped. By the way, just for the record I have no affiliation with H&R or discontent feelings for Comptech. This is strictly my personal opinion and I'm standing by it.

I have the Comptech springs and they are great. I would not want my car any lower. One thing to consider, if you go any lower than the Comptech drop you will need to get a rear camber kit. Some cost almost as much as the springs.

The BMW 3's seem to come with the perfect fender-wheel space. Comptech's, ride compromise very, very little. But as Lodoss22 said, sometimes I have to see another TL to realize my car is lowered in the back. The H&R springs are your best bet if you want the "perfect" dropped look in my opinion, just not sure how much different the ride would be.
I will probably switch to H&R this summer just to see the difference for myself.

I've had comptechs for couple of months. I don't think the drop is 1.25 in the front and 1 in the back. It's actually more once it settles. it's more like 1.5 in the front and 1.25 in the back. Car definitely looks lowered compared to stock. Car just looks more sexy!
To save you the trouble, i would just buy the rear camber kit and install it along with your spring. when i lowered my car, i was under the impression that camber kit was not required for comptech springs... but when i got my alignment done, the rear right was off factory specs.
As far as ride quality, you'll notice more bumps... and if you drive in area such as LA (million bumps and dips), your car will feel like an offroad truck hehe. everything else is good

Sorry I couldn't find the Edit button for my first post.
PLEASE NOTE!!!! Everything I mentioned above, about going over dips, clearing it, etc., I have the OEM Body Kits on. Obviously, if you don't it and have the H&R Sport Springs, then I don't think you should worry at all. But since I have body kits, I have to watchout sometimes.

I love my comptech springs - ignoring all other benefits it was worth it just to get rid of that 4 x 4 look our stock cars have. I have 2 12" subs in the back so the raked springs work well, due to weight of the subs and box the back end doesn't really look raked, just even with the front.
The handling is also a lot better, even people that don't often drive my car noticed that it handled better. It's hard to tell on the ride quality issue cause I always thought my TL rode hard anyway, I seem to feel every bump in the road (although I'm comparing this to my gf's GS 430, so it's not really a fair comparison).
I say go for it, you won't regret it, springs are up there with tint and a new HU as an absolute must have for TLs.

I luckly got the Comptechs used and I wanted them because I have a heavy system in the trunk...something to consider. If you have a system with the HR's you back will be lower than the front...like stock, but if you have Comptech's, the drop becomes even...like the HR's w/o a system.

Thing is, i dont know what i necessarily have to do. I am almost set on getting these Comptechs (1"/1.25"). Do you suggest i change the shocks/struts at the same time or should i let the stock do its job? mind you have 51k miles on this car now. How necessarily do i have to change the camber kit??

Here's an algorithm for you:
1. Take a close look at pictures w comptech and H&R 50103
2. Decide if you have a strong preference
3. If not, choose the cheaper alternative
4. Note to self that H&R 50103 is not the same as H&R sport that was designed for the accord.
5. If you care about handling I would change the shocks - get tokico blue or tokico illumina, if you only care about looks then you can get by on stock shocks
6. don't buy a camber kit. get an alignment and camber check done 2 weeks after install and check back

I went for the CT's and Tokico Illumina's set on 3 front and 4 in the back. the car definitely rides tighter, eveything seems to be more solid than stock which gives me more confidence when driving. i didnt like how the stock suspension made me feel like i was driving an SUV. I dont have any regrets with what the set-up I went and I look froward to driving it every morning. Next up either Eibach or CT Sways

so does anyone have a good side view picture of comptech and H&R installed?
I am not going to change my wheels. I love my stock TL-S wheels.
I just want to see how it looks. Right now H&R is my choice. But I would like to just see the outcome before I actually install them.
Thanks

I didn't need a camber kit either....
next I'm looking for sways - I have spoken with H&R headquarters personally and they have told me they design the springs to work with the stock setup so you shouldn't have to replace the shocks either... if you ever plan to put the stock springs back in it would be a good idea to get aftermarket shocks, for many reasons, but it is not needed.

What your problem is?
Anyone got pictures to show results... i was thinking of the Comtechs also, but if the H&R springs make the car sit lower, maybe those will be cool????
Pics, when possible...

here are the pictures of my car with comptechs. Not too high and not too low. eliminately the 4x4 looking wheel gaps... and reasonably low enough to clear most steep driveways without scraping

i bought the H&R's right from this site. Shipping was very fast and the price was good so i would suggest ordering from this site. Im sure you can find the H&R springs cheaper from another site but I trust this site the most and know they will deliver with care.

"i ordered h&r sport springs for my tl but the number on the box says 51858. are those the wrong springs?"
they are the accord ones. they will work but you'd probably rather have 50103 which is for the TL. the accord ones will lower your back more
