Question Comptech or OBX Header? Header only or Header and Exhaust?

Hello all. Am new to this. Have a 03 TLS and have added a CT icebox. Am planning on ordering headers. Leaning toward CT. Seems like more than a few folks have had issues with OBX. My dealer will install the CT. Considering also getting the CT exhaust right away too. Anyone have thoughts on pros and cons? Anyone know where I can get a better price on CT than from autocarparts? Thanks.

the CT headers are going to cost you mad $$$ regardless of where you go to get them. most people's theroy is that if they drop $399 for OBX and they crack, even if they had to buy another one they are still cheaper than CT

The exhaust system in the TL and TL-S is already so free flowing and well designed that switching it out would give you a 1HP gain at best. Exhaust systems on our cars are pretty much only for the look and sound. keep that in mind when you wanna drop $700 for the CT exhaust

Thanks. Thats kind of what I had gathered about the exhaust. I don't know that I really need it to sound different.

Part of my thinking on the CT vs OBX is that I will not wonder if something is going to go wrong someday with CT. I don't do the work myself so having to leave the car with a mechanic to install a second header if it came to that, would be a cost too.

If I did get an OBX and I ever had to buy a second header, I probaby wouldn't buy another OBX.

Appreciate your thoughts!

There is a new header called Racing Stone Headers, they seem pretty good, there is a GB going on for $400 shipped to your door and the headers look like they are better quality than my OBX's...maybe you should check them out.

I have had my obx's for more than 6 months and they have been through one of new yorks worse winters, i have no resonance and no problems, and they still look great. I think all the problems were with the first batch of headers. What a lot of people dont know is that comptech had a problem with it's first couple of batches too.

How many people have actually installed the Stone Racing Headers? Seems like lots of hype and lots of people want them but they are having trouble actually getting them.

Most people I have met in person have advised the fittament of the OBX was the biggest issue-that and the coatings.
Performance wise there should be no issues...

Best thing to do might be to get some used CT headers. There plenty for sale from 550-800 bucks. I like my OBX headers but have resonance (I kinda like it most of the time) and the fitment issues. My buddy installed the headers for me and he had a drill that came in handy that day.

I broke down and ordered a new Comptech header from autocarparts. I saw the group buy and thought that for $50 more, I'd just get it on the way today. Paid $1120.12. Looking forward to getting it on! Thanks for all the help.

Any comments on my pics? I like the way my car looks with the chrome rims.

Thanks r10apple. My wife gets the credit for designing the landscaping. The inside of the house looks nice too. Jeez you should see the inside of her car though! Trash, food wrappers, change, who knows what else! She washes it every six months whether it needs it or not. It's a '00 Pathfinder. The lease is up in a couple months and we are thinking an MDX might be the way to go. Spose I should find that board and do some reading.

Hey, do you know if the Racing Stone Headers (Group Buy) will fit my '03 TL-S ? Or is it for TL-P only? Please advise. Thanks.

well i bought the OBX headers and had NO problems with it what so ever...So it is all up to you...If you want to shell out $1200 for Comptech headers and peace of mind, then by all means, go ahead, its a free country...In my case, I didn't want to shell$1200 for the Comptech "name". Just my two cents..thats all.
