Agean... probably not... they might not even notice them unless you're getting engine work done

Either way.. as long as you turn it back in stock you should be OK. There are a lot of people who have modded leased cars on here.....

If you went to Park Avenue Acura... they charge $220, and it's a dealer install. A "speed" shop should be able to do it for around $150 or so. Unfortunately I do not know of any in NJ since I'm not from down there......

Based upon Comptech's dyno figures, the PEAK horsepower gain (using both headers AND axleback exhaust) is 17.9 HP while the average below 5250 is around 4 HP available for a cool $1918. See attached dyno:

Comptech dyno results

What gives?

The Comptech dyno is for a 99 TL, the TL-S may show a different curve and gain. Either way though it is to be expected that mostl of the HP gain will be in the upper RPM range

While I don't question your comments, I do question the WILDLY inflated figures our fellow poster boasts. Yes, the TLS motor has 14% more HP than the TLP. Even accounting for that difference, the claimed increases were more than 300% above that which Comptech claims. So the 4 HP increase over most of the range translates to 5 HP. 20? Sounds bogus to me.

so OBX then??

Alright, well, I don't really feel like spending a grand on Comptech's right now since i'm trying to get an Intake, Springs and Sways. And plus new tires which will cost me like $500. So i'll probably get the OBX to save some cash.
Even if they don't hold up that great because of the low quality or something, whats the worst that could happen to my car aside from me just having to replace the header with my old factory stuff??

The worst thing that could happen is if the seal between the header and the cylinder is not air tight. In that instance you would crack an exhaust valve and need a valve job as long as the valve did not break and ruin the cylinder head. This could happen a number of ways, the header could warp or not start our perfectly square, or the proper torque was not applied to the bolt during install. An obvious much less costly worst case would be you lose the cost of the headers and the install, re-install of stock parts.

Update

Just to followup - I ordered OBX headers from SSAutochrome on Oct. 2 2002, and rec'd them Oct. 9. They were well packaged, which is fortunate, because Fed-Ex (standard ground) beat up the box pretty good - this is despite a large red FRAGILE label pasted on all sides.

The headers have nice welds all around which are ground down smooth internally. They came with the hardware needed for bolting the headers to the A-pipe, but you'll need to re-use the locking nuts for the engine studs, and the bolts going to the cat. Surprisingly, new exhaust gaskets were supplied. From what I understand, you had to get those separately when purchasing headers from Comptech (at 3x the cost - :wow: )

I'm waiting for the Helm manual to see if I want to do this job myself. You can get a set of instructions from Comptech: http://www.comptechusa.com/install.html
Otherwise, I'll have to endure some more wife nagging in order to pay my local dealer.

Yup... that's the right price. The regular price was $495. Then someone on AV6.com did a group-buy for $399 shipped. Right after that happened, SSautochrome (retail shop for OBX) dropped the price to $340 shipped. It was supposed to expire Oct. 1, but they carried it on an extra week or so b/c they ran out.

There is now a new special on the website and the Accord/TL/CL headers are back up to the regular price of $495.....
