Cold air or short ram

Ok new to the game i had a short ram in my civic. Now i am wondering what you aziners think would be good either the cold air which is the one that goes down to the bumper correct? or short ram which would you get? Let me know your opinions and or stories!

a short ram is not worthless.

i personally would get a cold air, but i bet 99% of the people with cold air intakes would not even be able to tell the difference between a CAI or shorty.

sure you may be sucking in cooler air behind the bumper, but its nothing you the driver will notice...what you do notice is the less restrictive intake design compared to the oem one, not the placement of the air filter.

so get whichever one you like, and can afford.

i can't say i agree with you completely. although there is little noticeability to the driver, i would without hesitation get a cold air hands down. why would you get a short ram and feed hot air to your engine? it's not really about if you can feel it or not. why would you want to recycle hot air back to your engine?

this topic has been beaten to death for the last 10+ year's i have been into car's, and it never gets anywhere.

i am not going to argue this with anyone, but to say all short intake is doing is sucking in "hot air" is stupid.

In heavy rain/puddles how easily will a CAI suck in water on the TL?

if the filter is under water, pretty easily.

usually the filter is pretty well protected from most water because its behind the bumper, and fender splash guard's....

Mmm it all depends on the situation...this point has also been argued many times. If your filter becomes submerged completely, you're pretty much screwed. You should be okay in the rain...just avoid the puddles, that's what I do haha. If a trace amount of water makes it past the intake, you should be okay - water doesn't flow "up" very easily.

grip is right.. your typical driver won't personally notice hp gain difference between a SRI and CAI. There are certain conditions where a SRI is actually better and vice-versa.. if your going for pure sound, get the SRI... otherwise, CAI is a better choice all around. And NOOO, a CAI won't suck up water from driving through puddles. You would need to submerge your entire front end until the filter itself is underwater for you to hydrolock your engine.

if you ask me, i personally think an SRI sounds a lot better than a CAI. my friend has a SRI and it's a lot louder than my cold air. performance-wise, there really isn't much difference imo.

Someone in the bay was selling a AEM V2 for type S cars for 200. He said it was a prototype that never went into production.

I, at first, knew nothing about cars when joining this site. I searched around and most people on the forums prefer using the CAI over the SRI. So i decided to follow these members and got myself a CAI (icebox).

'I have a cold air in my acura, but a short ram in my honda. on my honda the splash guards are all but gone and i didn't want an intake down there primarily because i drive in alot of shitty weather with it. the acura has a good splash guard. and i prefer the cold air sound. I started with a short ram in my acura but switched it after a month or so.
just my opinion

Your average person wont feel 10-20 hp either. But the fact remains that Cold air is better than hot air. A short ram (especially in summer) is going to draw in much more hot air than the CAI

yea most people on hear get a cold air - but i personally dont like them. if you get a short ram you must close it off from all that hot air by making a custom air box like i made. you must make it so it can only draw air from the cavity in which the resonator used to sit in. so it can draw colder air. its ur call on this - i went short ram for the sound and sharp throttle response - and i made it suck cold air so i get a little more power. i most likely wont get as power much as a cold air. good luck

The one thing you have to keep in mind is a SRI is very easy to install and clean.

If you get a W/R SRI intake like I did you can always get the ram air tube for cooler airflow. Plus I love the deep tone but to each his own.

I think you should go with the CIA personally . I built mine out of pvc. Check my picks in thread I started.

How many threads are here on Azine, and how often about a TL or TL-S being hydrolocked?

A short ram is pointless. If you don't want a CAI remove your intake resonator and get a K&N filter.
