Clunk when shift into drive.

Clunk when shift into drive.
Feel like a pretty good thump when shift from park to drive, and I wondered about one of the motor kr Trans mounts, and are these known for that and if so which mounts. Thank you. Of course could have nothing to do what I suspect but sure feels that way

The mounts fail it is not what I would say known for that, it just happens in all cars and as they get older the rubber breaks down. Open the hood, start the car, and look at the engine/tranny, then using the throttle rev the car and watch the engine and see if they move a lot. When the car is idling the powertrain should hardly move. The front and rear mounts have a vacuum port that makes the car smoother when at an idle. You can easily check the front, the rear mount is a pain, there is another mount in front of the timing belt. There is are two tranny mounts you might be able to see if they are ok if you are looking underneath when someone revs the car and the powertrain jumps enough. Good luck.

You're gonna need someone to assist in putting the car into drive with you observing from above and to the side (so you don't get ran over).
Is the thump a mechanical type as in originating from inside the transmission or more so originating from the car's chassis? I don't recall the mounts under the transmission exhibiting any noise unless the car was experiencing some lateral movement (like changing lanes quickly, or turning into a driveway) though I could be wrong.
the car doesn't shift from park to drive; it goes through reverse first. Is the thump present if you are going from Neutral to drive, and neutral to reverse?
There is a mount on the side of the engine (where the cruise control and power steering pump are) that if any cracks are present is probably an issue; that mount is just a big piece of rubber.
