Post Closing hood properly on 2001 TL

How do you properly close a 2001 TL hood? I tried to press down like the manual says, yet the hood will not close. So I ended up lifting the hood about 8 inches from the bumper and then dropping it down. The sound of the hood closing was not a pleasing one, but the hood did close. I wonder if there's a gentler way of closing it.

Contrary to the manual, my sales guy also told me to drop it down from 8 inches or so as well. According to the sales guy, you can bend the hood out of shape if you try to press the hood shut after lowering it softly.

Any thoughts? DA

I drop it from about 6-8 inches also. If I try to just close it and press on it, I'm afraid that I'll dent the hood.

Thumbs up

I just drop it from about 8 inches or so. Yeah it makes noise but at least you dont get fingerprints on the paint.

I think it damages my Mugen grill to drop it... but I don't really have a choice.

I drop it a few inches like 4 inches above the closing point, and it normally closes just fine. worst comes to worst, i use a little rag, cover my hands in it, and push the hood down until it locks.

WHATEVER YOU DO DONT PUSH THE HOOD CLOSE!!! I thought it might be better if I close the hood myself so I did it three times which I thought was gentle. When I washed my car, I found six little dents on the corner above the grill. I know it was me because there was no scratch on it and then I felt like shooting myself. I have learned my lesson the hard way and dont want you guys to do the same So just drop the hood from 8 inches. It'll be fine.
