check engine light - cylinder misfire codes
check engine light - cylinder misfire codes
Haven't drove my car for 2 weeks and its been in the rain and cold... so today I started my car and it drove fine for half an hour until my check engine light started flashing and now stays on continuosly, along with the tcs light. i had autozone pull the codes with obd II and it was reported P0303 P0304 P0306 P0300, cylinder misfires in 3,4,6, and random respectively.
about nine months ago, it did the same thing and my dealer told me it was a bad ignition coil pack on cyl 5... had that replaced and along with six new plugs.
So now what do I do? how do i test the coil pack myself or could it be something else.

update:
tested coil pack using swap method and found pack on cyl 3 not firing, so i bought a new one.
had to reset pcm (passenger fuse, removed clock 7.5a fuse 10 sec) to clear the CEL after replacing.
what i don't understand is how long do these normally last and what causes them to fail as I had just replaced one about nine months ago.

What year is your car?
I've seen random misfires caused by EGR's failing or getting close to plugged up.
I'm not sure but the EGR may be covered longer than standard warranty.
7/70 or maybe 8/80 like the exhaust system?
As far as how long do they last....? Maybe you just got a couple poorly made ones. The ones on the 91-95 legends seem to be doing allright.

Hey I am having a similiar problem (except I currently have a missfire on on all six cylinders, and a "random" misfire) I am taking it to Acura in two weeks to have the EGR valve cleaned and replaced if needed, as this is to the best of my knowledge the problem with the car. Also somethign to look into it may be possible that you have an electronics issue if your car keeps breaking coils. Not sure what else to say but good luck man! The EGR valves are covered by an extended 8 year 80,000 Mile warenty
the egr port cleaning is very easy and something you can do in a little over a hours time.
as for how long the coil packs last, i have a 2000 with 166,000 miles on them and they are still fine

Mybe your gaskets, if all or most cylinders misfire, is very likely to be your gasket, but one way to find out for sure is cheking for your temperature gauge going up sometimes, if it does, then it is your gaskets.
I had an idle problem also on my 99 tl at 45,000 km along with the check engine light coming on. Took the car to the dealer 5 times before they fixed the problem. The dealer fix was using higher octane fuel to changing the plugs. They spent a day looking for the problem on the 5th visit and found it when they did a compression test on the cylinders.
One cylinder was about 60 psi less than the other 5. I was told it could be valves to heads. As it turned out one of the valve nut had worked itself loose. If it is running rough also, get a compression check.
