Check Engine Light Code

My 99TL check engine light is on and I scanned it with the AutoXray 6000 scanner. The result is "P0401 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Insufficient Detected".
Reset it and then the next day it came on again. Scanned it again, same result.
Does anybody have the same problem?
Is it an easy fix?

sounds like the EGR valve to me. this is a pretty easy fix. if i recall the valve is easy to get to, just that it is probably a pricey item from the dealer (i would imagine around $80-100). let us know how it goes.

Check with the dealer first if it's covered under any warranty, there was a service bulletin for this code to clear the egr passage in the intake and install a new valve for this code

It is a 99TL with more than 103000 miles on it. Warranty? That is why I do not want to bring it to the dealer, costly and time consuming.

its a easy fix i just had a post on this not but a week or so ago. 3 cans of carb cleaner will fix the problem.
oh and the dealer wants 400+$$ to fix the problem, it cost me 6$$ to fix it and 1 hr or so of my time to do it, and you wont be covered under warranty to do it!

to fix the problem properly you have to remove the intake manifold(sounds a lot harder than it really is) drill out the egr passage with a special drill bit and insert a sleeve. also replace the egr valve. the carb spray will work but not indefinitly.

it has happened to me twice both times with about 75,000 miles between. i refused to pay 500 to fix so i did it myself. its a extremly easy fix and only takes about a hour and a half to remove the intake manifold (like mrmechanic said sounds harder than it is) clean with cleaner and scrub brushes and reinstall
