Cheavy Chase Acura pulled one on me....
Took my 2002 Acura TL-S in to have the rear bumper repaired after I was rear ended and I asked the service guy how much would it be to just replace bulb in my driver foglight which is cracked. He said he would get back to me and let me know before I pick the car up. My estimate from the lady who hit me insurance was $308. So when I went to pick my car up a bit ago, the bill was $514!!! They replaced the entire headlight housing, costing me an extra $169, and $8 for the bulb. I knew my foglight was cracked, but I wanted to do the Lexan thing I have heard about which is cheaper and nicer. I am just pissed because I think he was being sneaky.

Why did you pay the bill???
If the guy told you he would get back to you with a price before you pick the car up, and he didnt and installed the part without your consent, you should NOT pay for it. They shouldve contacted you.
You kinda let them screw you.

Dealerships
Since you are in the metro DC area why don,t you visit MotorWorks in Rockville - They do only Honda's and Acura's, been in business for almost 20 years and dont screw you.

They're not cheap but I can't recommend them highly enough. I have a '95 Odyssey with over 150,000 miles that they keep in real good shape and will be taking my 06 TL there too. Most importantly they never replace something unless they have to and will always call you if they find something unexpected that may go beyond the original estimate I sent a buddy of mine there who kept having a check engine light problem on a '02 TL that the dealer just reset 3 times and it would just come back. Motorworks fixed it and wrote him a nice detailed description of the problem along with a TSB reference. He paid them but was able to get full re-imbursement from Acura.

Hey guys, thanks for the response, I may have made a mistake, But I guess I goofed. I had just gotten off work and I wasn't in the mood, plus the foglight was there and in place
and I was ready to go home. So I have to bite this one ~

I agree. You screwed yourself. Before any work is done on your car either have to ok it sign a consent form before you leave the dealer. If you never oked it or signed a paper it is ok for them to fix things without telling you. You should not have paid the bill and asked for service manager or better yet the GM.

i had no problems with chevy chase before the summer of 2005. they have a bunch of new guys there that just seem like they're their filling a chair. the guys that i used to deal with (i have no idea where they went) were perfect -- they gave me a TL loaner for nearly 2 weeks when my transmission went!
theres on older guy there who i think has the first desk in the service dept. hes more reputable than the rest of the new, younger guys, imo.
but in general, never pay the bill especially if they didn't call you to ask you if you wanted to get work done.

I think for the sake of future acura owners who could get screwed by not having prior consent to repair, you owe it to them to call Acura corporate and/or write an email identifying that the repairs were not authorized. Though you may not get anything back, at least you'll do a public service for the acura community. And who knows, maybe a free oil change out of it
