. Unless you have the car's computer re-programmed, it will always do that.

Well, I am sure it's possible. The Steptronic system on the Bimmer will up-shift if you over rev the enigne. Somebody got a chip and the tanny won't upshift by itself no more. That's done in Japan....

If you're very serious about getting the most out of a race use D1 and shift manually to D2 at 6900-7000RPM.
As for hurting the tranny. No way. And if it did, then the tranny's a piece of junk to begin with.
Us old guys know that factory rated RPM ranges are there mostly because that's where the engine falls off. As for hurting something, a 100 or 200 extra RPM won't hurt a thing. And again, if it did then it's a piece of junk to begin with.
Take your own risks, but I've taken every car I've ever owned passed redline. For those of you that know V8s aren't known for turning RPMs, I've turned my old stock '84 Z28 500RPM past redline very regually. And my old 327 Malibu SS, well it would out rev any VTEC out there and sounded WAY better than anything out there. I'm tell ya. There nothing save perhaps a Ferrari at 8000RPM that sounded better than when I pushed that old 327 past 7000RPM on up to 7800PRM.
If you're afraid to risk it, then don't. But a couple hundred extra RPM won't break a thing. Now you may be wasting your time becuase it's possible that the optimum shift point is 6800 or so and not 7000. I can't say becuase no one has published any tests to that fact. And it's too hard to tell by feel just because there isn't enough torque produced by the TLS to feel where it falls off. It was easy with my V8s, but I really can't tell for sure. I do know that it doesn't go flat like some cars do at redline. I bet that the 3.2 VTEC TLS is still producing enough HP and torque to still pull nicely above 6800RPM.
I gotta get me that G-Tech Pro and find out for sure.

It's a left to right shift from D1 to D1.

You can shift D1 to D2...I do it all the time in my TL-S and it seems as if the car accelerates better...I also feel that I have more control through D1 and D2...I hate how the SS mode shifts the 1-2 shift for you, even if you let off the gas in first gear in SS for a second
