Thumbs up Changed trunk springs

well, i ordred the heavy duty torsion bars from PAA on tues, picked them up yesterday and went to work on... i figured it was gonna be easy, but after looking for a release mechanism for about 10 minutes, i could not figure out how to take off the stock ones... there seems to be no simple way... i ended up forcing one of the ends out with a lever(torque wrench) and as it was coming off, and i expected this to happen in a murphy's law kinda way, it unwound and hit my index finger so hard that before i finished saying "ouch" my finger was swollen and couldnt move. pretty sure its not broken though, as i can now type with it ... but anyway... then i tried to figure out an easy way to put the heavy-duty ones in, and same thing.. there doesnt seem to be an easy way. ended up having to use that same lever method to twist the new one into place, while holding the trunk with my left leg and pushing up on the spring with my right leg. after finally getting it to fit into all the grooves, the trunk now pops up when opened and gives resistance when u try to close it. i wont even be changing the second spring as it will be too stiff, since the mugen spoiler doesnt weigh nearly as much as the OEM one. i'll probably take some pics of it a little later, when i regain the use of my index finger completely.

Why didn't you buy the special tool needed to remove/install them? Or have the dealer do it? I took mine to a dealer, & they replaced mine for free, & it took less the 5 minutes.

What, and deprive us of such a fun tale of woe and toil.

When my trunk pops open it doesn't move much at all. I like the fact that it doesn't pop up. Keeps prying eyes away from my system.

With the Cascade on the trunk lid and bags of polyfill stuffed in the spolier, my trunk lid is pretty damn heavy. I can drop it from about 3-4 inches up and it closes.

*ala forest gump*
um not a bright man

but really i figured i'd be able to do it myself, and didnt think a tool was necessary, i initially looked before i ordered and saw some bolts and figured they just get released, but when i picked up the new springs, it was 5:30pm, so service dept. was already closed. and once i started, i wanted to get it done, us americans and instant gratification.. u know how it is

i hate that mine did that. now it pops up, u still cant see inside, but its open so u dont need to "unpeel" it from the bottom, and especially since u have all that stuff, i'd look into getting the springs changed, it wont open the trunk all the way, but will help you when ur opening it. as far as closing it, i can see how being able to just breathe on it and have it close is good, when ur getting the shopping out and whatnot, but i still prefer to close it consciously.

From reading that line, it sounds as if you didn't install the other bar? How much was the set--did you have to buy it as a set? I was thinking of installing those on my accord, since my trunk doesn't even look open when I open it via the latch.(I have an OEM spoiler with regular springs). Do the ends of the 'spring' look anything like my pictures here? I adjusted my trunk springs today, so thats what the photos are for.

the set was $35 from Park Ave Acura and came with both pieces. I did only install one of the "springs" and left the other one stock. I also happened to ask them if they can order the same set for the Accord coupe, and they said no. I asked cuz a friend of mine also wanted to do this. We also compared my springs to his 98 accord coupe, and tehy are definitely different, though similiar. for the accord, they are bent around the speakers, TL ones are not.

Hey guys, I dont have a TL-S, but my friend does. I have a 2k2 Maxima, well it's totalled, but I will be getting a new one, 6 spd this time. But I respect the TL-S, I didn't buy one because I wanted to keep my car price under 30.Well, my friend has a system in his Aegan Blue TL-S, 2 Eclipse 12's, 1 Cadence 1500 watt amp, and Cadence Components. His trunk rattles alot when his bass knocks, is there any effective way to stop this, it sounds real bad when I'm following him.
