My center console shifter light that lights up each gear went out. Any ideas on how to get to it to replace it?

off the top of my head, pull off the 2 trim rings that go around the shifter, then pull up on the piece that has all the gear #'s and you will see the bulb

 

i have the same problem.. it looks like it went out- but if you TAP it from the top on the chrome/aluminum piece hard enuff... it should turn back on.. GHETTO- YES... but thats how it works for me haha

I got indivudual letters made n took out the old ones because they had that stupid green filter in them and wouldnt let white light through.

 

where can i buy the led and the DIY to do it??

around the factory bulb is a clear diffuser thing that spreads the light all around.

i put two 5mm led's facing 45 degrees and 135 degrees in a kind of V shape and melted some of that plastic diffuser to make room for them.

And i got letters printed on clear vinyl so the light shines through just the letter part.

but since its clear, you need to stick them on something white so u can see the white letters, i stuck them on a white grocery bag and cut around

sounds kinda funny but looks perfect.

 

Mine went out too, I paid about $4 for the stock part. You will have to remove the arm rest and center console and ashtray. There is a DIY in the AV forum. Then you push the clips on the black light sorround one at a time and lift up gently. I started with the one on the rear passanger side. Once the black plate it free, twist the base of the bulb and the socket comes right out. The part I got had a bulb and socket, just pull out the bulb and replace. It took about 40 min b/c of the console. A lot easier than the LED parts
