CD tray mod.

I haven't been here in a while due to person issues, but in the mean time i've been thinking something out, and finally completed it today. Here's some pics to get us started:
after reading the DIY on removing the radio, this is what my TL looked like:

then i had to put it back together, anyone notice anything different?:

and here's what i've been working on:

sorry for the crappy quality, the video was playing off my IPOD and it looks a LOT clearer in person, i also have it hooked up to a silver PS2 in my glove box, but thinking of changing it out to a black ps2 when i get the money to get a used one....

oh, and if y'all wondering, it plays over the factory radio with blitzsafe adapter, for music i use my IPOD, and videos can be done with IPOD or PS2, and i play games with the PS2. In a few weeks if i can find one for a good price, i'm going to add navigation to it, garmin makes a stand alone unit, that can basically mount anywhere with a video out, so i'll be able to do navi with the screen. And i'm thinking about adding a rearview camera...

it wasn't expensive, b/c i already owned an IPOD and a PS2,
i didn't want to replace my factory system and factory sub b/c i don't want to waste anymore money in this car, b/c i'm planning on buying a new car soon, and this will just be a daily driver.
So i just bought a cheap screen and did it.... everything works just like it used to, it's just a screen, no receiver

well the TV has been discontinued, but it's a cheap pyle Tv. pyle is releasing the newer version of the screen in about 2 weeks from what i've read.... I paid ~260 for the screen, but i've seen it range from about there to 450 bucks.... The install wasn't that bad, you're going to have to cut a little metal in the dash...., and i just dremel'd the face of the CD tray thing till it fit the screen.

Do you happen to have a part number for that standalone Garmin unit? I want to add navi to my 7" flip out w/ DVD.

yea, for the garmin thing, if you google, the cheapest i found was 450..... and if i really wanted navi that much, i'd rather put out the money to get the avic d3 which i can get for 785..... but than i'd have to buy the double din dash kit which would be another 180 bucks...., so i went this route with no navi, but if i find a cheap navi that's just a brain with video out, i'm going to get it,... DUAL and Pyle make navi add ons also, but they are expensive and i'm not too into their products.... I like to stay with the major brands, but pyle was the only company that i found to have a screen that would work with what i wanted..... and i was surprized by the quality and resolution of the screen....

i only have one problem, i can't adjust the screen.... it's all the way out, and on tilt 2 which is the most forward it will tilt, there are no other adjustments you can make with out it hitting the AC thing on top.... I can get past this problem if i mount it forward more, but then it wouldn't be flush, and when you do it, you have to make some brackets to mount it, b/c it sits about a lil more than a 1/4 inch above the radio....

tv has av out, so i just bought a blitzsafe hon/acura dmx. v1 and hooked that up to the av out on the tv, and have my ps2 and ipod hooked up to the av1 and av2 on the radio, there's also a video 3 which i don't use, (can be used for back up camera or navi) and there's reg. tuner tv also

Wow thats great disgookonfiya, it's actually a good anti-theft idea lol. No seriously, when people look inside your car they can pratically tell what they can/can't take from your car. Thats one reason i got 15% tints all around. You car looks like its completely stock... but hey, a hidden screen/PS2... You did a great job man, many props keep up the good work

Awesome mod.

This is my next project once I find an affordable half-din screen.

(Sorry to bring this back up.)

bringing this back from the grave, but i bought a G35 last summer
and I decided to sell my TL (full coverage insurance one two cars got pretty high for a guy in his lower 20's) And i took out the TV/blitzsafe adapter/ps2 slim/ipod/all the wires.... How much do y'all think it's worth? I know they stopped making this TV Last year, pretty much a month after i bought the TV, the Tv couldn't have been bought anywhere for under 400 bucks, and i bought the blitzsafe adapter for ~70 bucks but don't know how much it's worth now. So any of y'all have an estimate of how much i can probably get for the screen and blitz safe adapter together/separately? And if any of y'all have a question on how to do the screen it's fairly simple, i actually still have the trim panel i cut to fit the screen. (I bought a new panel before i sold the car)
