CD Changer Error

When I purchased the car the previous owner told me he had been having occasional problems with the CD changer skipping or giving him error messages. I bought it anyway b/c in the grand scheme of things this is a minor problem.

I've been periodically getting the "Er-E1" error message when trying to play CD's. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Of course, the local dealership charges $110 just for a diagnostic before they repair anything. Does anyone know what this error message means? If it's just that the laser lens needs to be cleaned, that's something I can do on my own, but I'm not sure if it's that simple or something more involved.

The 6 disc plate align on 4 posts at each corner of the player. Often a disc misaligns or a plate misaligns.

I agtually pulled out the entire head unit, opened up the CD player and realigned the plates. Voila no more error.

PM me if you want more detail, but there are a bunch of threads on this subject.

I give mine a Lil love tap on either side of the console on either side of the radio, when I get the err-e1 message, and it goes away. I've noticed it only does it to me when it's cold. Don't have the problem in the summer time. Just a temp fix till I get my kenwood 7140
