if its the catalitic converter get ready to spend acouple hundred bucks or more (sorry to make it sound bad)
first thing to do is to make sure that its the cat thats bad. next time the light comes on either bring it to the dealer to have them diagnose it, or bring it to a place like auto zone or pepboys and have them plug it in to get a code. if it is the cat yo will want to replace it cause it will mess with performance, emissions, and mileage

when i got the "check" sign up, i took it to a mechanic and he hooked his computer to the diagnostic port to see what's going on, and it was the catalyc converter. i was wondering why my gas meter kept falling down so quickly for the last two weeks.. damn. that would mean i'll have to hold off on a few parts ive been working up for now.. and could it be a reason why my car would jump revs while accelerating? when i slow down to go through those toll booths and accelerate, my car would jump high revs, and then slow down. the shifts were really weird. it didnt accelerate fast but it was revving high and engine was getting surprisingly louder than it usually used to.. i cant find catalytic converter though.. and isnt it better to just stick with the OEM for these types of parts?

I had to get my cat replaced, the dealer quoted me 1200 dollars just for the cat. Insurance paid for it though and I don't think that the body shop paid that much for it eitheir.

It should be covered by a federally mandated emissions warranty.

Dealers will quote you that for a honda replacement, but the fact is that most muffler shops can replace just the catalytic for alot less and the still leave the factory pipe where the O2 sensors go. I think it could be just a sensor. If he is basing his diagnosis solely on a computer then get a second opinion because there are clear symptoms of a bad cat, ie; rattling from the catalyst breaking apart inside, and restricted flow.

Get a second opinion!

Federally mandated emissions laws allow for free replacement up to 8 yrs/80k. My friend has a Dodge product and he took it to the dealer and they replaced it free, no questions asked. Acura should do the same. I am about to begin a position as a service advisor for Jag/Land Rover and one of the franchises the company owns is also Acura. I'll keep you guys posted of these things as I find them out.
