I get that exact same thing. It feels like someone hit me in the back and I always look in my rear view mirror to make sure no one did.

It's normal. That's nothing but the A/C compressor kicking in. I used to always think somebody hit me from behind. I'm used to it now though. You'd think a product like Acura would be better than that.

Yeah, it's common for both the Tl and CL. It happens in every HVAC mode. Even when you're in defrost mode with the heat on. Every now and then the A/C compressor kicks in to inject a little cool air in the mix. This somehow reduces the tendancy for foging, or condensation.

When the compressor kicks in, the ECU increases the idle a tad, in order to balance the extra load on the engine.

Most mordern cars do this, but other manufacturers write code into the ECU to smooth this transistion out.

Acura doesn't.

The AC kicks in to dehumidify the air, not to inject cool air into the mix.
The common misconception is that the AC is for cooling, not so.
Its basically a dehumidifier, and in the winter, it acts to lower the humidity levels, and in the summer, by removing humidity, it removes heat.

Ever see in winter climates cars with foggy windows? Those are idiots who have turned off the AC or worse, are driving with the recirc on.

I have never noticed this. Perhaps some ecu's balance the compressor better than others?

I also had another idea. What if the coolant level was too low so that the compressor wasn't working as hard as designed. Would it appear the engine was over-compensating? Or does the ecu simply try to maintain a given rpm regardless of load? My guess would be the latter, but if that were the case, peeps shouldn't be feeling a surge.

Maybe the dealer can adjust it.

Same here. I thought I was being paranoid at first, but it sure is consistent. I can almost count to 10 and feel it give me that little kick.

It does kinda feel like I took my foot off the brake for a split second. I even tried putting it in neutral while at a red light to see if it still gives me that little kick. No kick, and no noticeable rise in RPM's either. Weird...

It's Normal. There was a discussion about this last year. It's cause our A/C is soooo powerful.

I love my car...yeah it does the little lurch when the air conditioner cycles on and off...but so what....all cars have their little quirks and hassles...but all and all....it's still a very nice car for the money. I don't think there is any other car for less than $50,000 that is nicer. If you don't like you're car...why did you buy it? I'd rather have a M5, but just can't afford the $$$$$$. And from the feedback I get from friends that have BMW's, they have a lot of problems that are very expensive to repair. Yes they are nice cars, but you have to have a lot of $$$$ to afford to buy and own one.

and in the summer, by removing humidity, it removes heat.
Uh, no. Cooling air also happens to remove humidity, which is why it's run even with the heat on, but in the summer, the air that comes out of the vents is cooler, because of the heat exchange from the air to the refrigerant.

Do a Google search on "refrigerant cycle" if you'd like to see more.

My car does the lunge, too. They failed (in the code) to properly time the increase in IAC with the engagement of the compressor clutch, hence the little bump forward. Depending on the response of the closed loop idle control algorithm, it may have been the best way to do it. Tough to say, without being there, and knowing if they put any real thought into it, or not.

Same here! Isn't there anything they can do for this? Make adjustments or something?

My seat is squeaking again. Different spot....not the lunge. My Ford Sport Trac does it too...I just notice it more in the TL because I drive it more.

I never noticed it in any other Acura I owned but they have always been stick...so this is my first automatic.
