Hello,
I got a problem with the my 99 TL 157K on it.
I have a new battery installed, idle control valve also changed and less than a week after all those changes the car just dies on the highway in NJ.
I pull over emergency lights on wait a few seconds after full stop and then start no problem. No previous noises before this happens it just sneaks up on you. No lights to warn you of this either.
Could it be the ignition switch? I did change under the recall once. Planning to take it to the dealer but $$.
Any advice on what it could be?
Thanks

Yes, it could be the ignition switch again. The replacements can and do fail.
My 1999 TL is on its third ignition switch. The second one was installed under the recall.
You can buy the part for about $50 online and install it yourself.
Here's a nice DIY thread with photos.

that is definitely the ignition switch. same thing was happening to me about a year ago, got it fixed and the stalling stopped. i believe there is a diy around here if you wanna save some money.
yep- DIY and hope this one last a while
Some parts are just prone to failure, others are made worse by things like hanging several keys on the ring ...causing internal sideways pressure on the ignition switch guts

*looks at my keychain with 3 additional keys, 2 keychains and the remote on it*
...
think I should clear off a lot of that excess baggage?
its the ignition switch for sure. simple test is to hit the ignition switch area with your hand while the car is parked and running and it will shut off.
mine had the same issue. 300$ by dealer
they changed the immobilzer first which did not help.

45 bucks and 30 minutes- especially if switch replaced before- this time its easy
for you to do
If you have weight on the keyring-- you may consider a holder that is 2 pieces with a center connector clip- so the car remotes and key can quickly be seperated while in use, then put back together with the rest of your stuff as needed

recheck the install of the IAC would be the next step, why was that replaced??
Has your car been in for the recall install of an egr port thing?
99s get it free,
the rest of us have to remove the intake manifold and clean the egr ports with carb spray and toothbrush~
