You're supposed to have the circuit breaker in the front (under the hood). Not the rear. The distribution block should be in the rear.

That way if the wire touches anything it will cut power off from the main battery. The distribution block wont do jack for you if its in the front. All that does is provide another 12V to another source. I wouldnt trust whoemver u got that installed from.

That's no good at all. Sounds like you had one heck of a shop install your system. It's worth your time to go give them so hell.

I second Benzo's advice. I was a pro audio installer for 15 years. A circuit breaker should be mounted within one foot of the battery terminal connection. In the event of a short, the breaker opens. With thick power wires such as 2 or 4 gauge being used so often, I can tell you those cables can carry a tremendous amount of current before they burn completely through. Until they do, they will continue to heat up and set everything on fire that come in contact with it. Electrical fires are very hard to stop once they get going. You are lucky to have put it out with minimal damage. Take the car to a competent shop, have all the burned wiring replaced and put the breaker up fron where it belongs. Also, dont use a breaker with a higher amp rating than your system needs. i've seen people use 200AMP breakers on systems drawing under 75 AMPS. Remember, the higher the current rating, the greater the short circuit thats needed to trip the breaker. More current = more of a fire hazzard. Oh, one last thing, take photographs of everything before and during the repairs so you have documentation in the event you want to take the first shop to small claims court for negligence and breach of contract (I was and installer; I am an attorney nowadays )

Before I go to a dealer to get it checked out, I would take EVERY SINGLE part of your system out of the car. Do that before anything else. If you go to a dealership and they see that was the cause of the problem, they'll tell you to get the hell off their property. Then, go to complain to the wonderful place that installed your shit.
