Can We Make Led Head Lights?

I got and idea after reading what everyone does with their lights, to gut the brake light housing and take some time to mount up some led light like on the g35. It would take a lot of patience and imagination, but I think it could be done. Just want to see if it COULD be done.

I think if I can make a mounting bracket for all the little led's, then I could make any design. Maybe something cool like a number or the acura A. ????

You could of course do that...but I am saying do the whole thing...make a design and fully customize it...I just need other perspectives.

I was jsut thinking about that the other day when I saw a g35 driving at night. Their taillights do stand out than the rest of the cars. I am in the process of doing a headlight conversion right now and I think a taillight conversion is floaitng around in my head as my next choice. the G35 definitely is my top choice right now. I think it can be done, ANYTHING can be done. Talk to some people , some shops, around your area that does custom body jobs and I am sure they can do some crazy conversion. I think G35 tailights would actaully look good on a TL, ANyone car to PHoTOSHOP!

I tried it on my Honda Accord, you'll get hotspots. Maybe its just the bulb i used. But LEDs in general are known to cause hotspots.

After looking at that angel eyes setup, maybe we can integrate that design for our brake lights...would be just as hard, but less lights to go out... What I am thinking is get 3,4, or 5 of those rods to go horizontal in the brake light. Make those dremel cuts all the way across each rod, and one led light at the end of each rod. I think this would look pretty futuristic...someone needs to photoshop it or something though. I will try to draw it up and see if it would be worth it.

OR, maybe completely clear the tail lights and put red "Devil Eyes" for the brake and running lights...

Speaking of that... does anyone have a pic of a second gen TL with the LED light replacements on the tails? I've been wanting to do that actually. I cant even imagine if it would look any different.

Comet, I`ve talked to a guy at Autozone when I was buying some LED Dome Lights for my friend. It actually does make a difference. When your talilights are on at night, if you look into them carefully, you can see the two bulbs that are in there. The guy at Autozone said if you replace it with the LED, I think it was something like 9+ LED bulbs? You won`t see the two bulb-light-up thing in your taillight, instead, all you`ll see is a bright red, it`ll just glare thru-out the whole taillight, you won`t be able to see the LED bulbs. After he told me that, I thought it`d look pretty nice, so I`m planning to buy it sometime soon. It should give you that super cherry red look at night.

Cool... sounds like a good investment. What about the third brake light? Is there any possible way we could change that to LED as well?

I'm doing that right now... lol.. I'll post pics of it when I get the chance.. Should be a week or so.. I'm still working on a housing to hold them in..

I'm using two 12 inch x 3/4 inch strips of LEDs.. They are designed for use in EXIT lights.. there is a 240V connection and there is a 12V conncection for battery use when the power goes off. I'm hooking up the 12V wires to the brake light wires.. Simple connection but the housing is the artistic part.

There is probably more than 60 LEDs in each strip..

here's what it looks like.. I'm now tryin to design a brake light housing that does not include the stock sub grille. I'm not sure if I should try to use one from another brand of car and then fit the LED in, or just make one out of wood and cover it in tan leather (I'm making a new rear deck lid so I'll be wrapping that in leather too).

Oh nevermind... I see them now. Badass.... that might be a good project to invest in. I think LED tails are awesome. But if I put the bulbs in the tails I think I wanna go ahead and do the third lamp too.

Yeah exactly...The devil eyes concept could look like this but with slit rods

Or round the rods to make them look like the devil eyes concept...again, it would be less lights to go out and/or replace.

Not sure how great these would look on our TL's but I saw them in my dad's trucking magazine and made me think of this thread. They plug right into our existing sockets and don't require disassembling the tail light.

Probably the easiest way is to bake the taillights to separate the lens from the housing. Then put the LEDS on strips like the ones ResidualFreedom has. That would ensure proper alignment of the LEDs so they hotspot in the properly spaced pattern.

Actually now that I think about it, it'd be pretty sweet if you put LEDs in the front parking lights to form A's since the shapes are triangular. Maybe I'll try when I bake my headlights to remove the fugly orange reflectors.
