Can heat cause this?

Just found my third major warranty repair next time I go in for an oil change for my TL-S: Express window up and down doesn't work anymore. I wonder if the heat we have today has anything to do with it. It's 93F outdoor but inside the car feels like 150F. Could be circuits getting fried? I'm not an EE, so I don't know. The supervised up and down still work though. Sidenote: My first warranty repair was rattling sunroof and second was warped rotors. Anybody else have the window defect problem?

In hot weather the auto down window does not work...
Dealer changed the auto-off switch and the problem is still the same.

you have to reprogram the button. I can't remember how, I have done it before though. I tried searching for it on this forum but ic an't find it. Try checking out your manual.

I think you had to press and hold the window down button for 30 seconds or something like that then open the window all the way up. Or was it the other way around.

My car's seen some hot South Florida weather and I've never had a problem with the auto window function.

Thanks thephantom, I just did what you suggested (except I press and hold when the window is all the way up for 30 seconds). Problem gone. Wonder if the heat did something to the internal programming. Anyhow, it works now.

Page 102 of the Owner's Manual. If the battery is disconnected or the fuse relating to the window switches is removed you need to reset the auto up/down feature of the driver's window.

Very simple: With car running and the driver's window in the full-up position, press and hold the driver's window button down until the window goes all the way down. Release. Pull up on the switch and hold until the window goes all the way up. CONTINUE to hold the switch up (even after the window has stopped) for approximately 10 seconds. Your switch should be reset and the auto up/down should work again.

The strange thing is, I never disconnected the battery and the fuse was never removed. Must've been a freak thing that happened with internal programming.

Isn't the window actually closing when it's going all the way up?

You're right, I got confused with all the ups and downs. Everyone got the point.

As an FYI if you got one of the first '02 TL or (S) off the line you better check the recalls. I believe those window switches were one of them.

Yes, the window's switch is one of the recall for 02 TL-S. I'm not sure if the recall is for both TL-P and TL-S but I purchased the car ('02 TL-S) on April 2001. One of the recall is widow's switch.

I remember reading the information about the recall. They said that it would go up or down all on it's own, and that the controller had to be replaced.

Can you imagine paying a toll, you're getting your change, and all of the sudden the window goes up?!?!

NO CHANGE FOR YOU! (spoken like the Soup Nazi)

This happened to me two times. The first time I took it to the dealer and asked about the recall. They said that my VIN was not in the recall. They reset it and said to try it out again. About 1 month later, same thing happened again. I just reset it myself and so far ok.

Lightbulb Reprogramming the window switch!

Hi everyone!
this is my first post, I hope it's useful. When I took my 2003 TL Type-S to have Lo-Jack installed I got my car back and my auto function on the driver's window didn't work. Apparently they had disconnected the battery to install it. Anyhow, I took it to the dealer and in less than 30 sec. the tech had it working again. He wouldn't tell me what he did, trade secret I guess, or warranty work. After digging in the manual I found that to reset the window you start the car, then roll the driver's window all the way down, then roll the window all the way up and hold the button in the up position for an additional 10-20 seconds and it will reset itself.
