Calling out to All Acura Techs on Engine

I have a 1999 TL Navi, The Engine Just Died with 181,100 Miles I need a new engine,

There are a few wrecked ones around but no 1999

Are all the 3.2tl Engines comparible
Can I use a 2000 - 2003 engine and still be ok?

Here is Why I ask,

All 2000 and higher have 5 gears 99 Has 4?
Woudl tranny need to be changed?
Will Ecu Need to be replaced?
Is wiring harness and Wires all the same?
Can you use a TL-S Engine

The Body is in perfect 100% Shape I would hate to just dump the car? What are my options to keep this under a resionable price? I have a 2004 but Love this as my everyday driver

I have Comptech Headers and Exhaust, AEM Pulleys plus Weapon r Intake.

Thanks in advance for everybodys help what should I do ??

Thanks

i think 99-03 tlp models have the same engine... the 99 just have a different tranny

tls you probably will need to change ecu

what was the price for the used motors?

i have a spare type s motor and i was just wondering how much other people sell it for

When you say you motor is dead do you mean the cam broken, throw a rod, bad seal, cracked block?

It'd probably be a lot cheaper to rebuild your current motor if you have a good block.

Just an idea.

If you want to keep the car for a daily driver and you have some $$ to buy a new motor and have it installed, you should have the old one rebuilt by a performance shop. Austin519 has a shitload of work done to his motor. PM him to find out more info...

It might cost you a little more, but it'll be worth it if your gonna keep the car anyway--you'll be happy you did it itstead of just replacing with the same stock motor

Austin519 is no longer a member at this site...Austin may not respond to PMs. The best solution would be to have Supercomputers contact the performance shop directly for information and pricing. I forget the name of the shop...someone that remembers, please post both name and phone number.

Hey Guys Thanks for all the info, Right now there is a banged up 2000 on ebay for 1500.00 the guy will let me take out of it what I need, He said all engine components are working. As for my engine, I am not sure what is broken. The acura dealer ship says its 100% something in the engine and with 181,000 miles on it that its not worth taking apart at 85.00 an hour to see whats wrong or fixing a motor with that kind of mileage. So I guess I will look for a used motor. Thing is I want to keep the whole project under 3-4k if possible.

So i guess If I go with a 2000 or higher I will need the Engine,Tranny and ECU
If I go with a TLS motor I will need a Tranny,ECU,Engine,Wiring and Would ahve to replace all my Parts Comptech headers Pulleys Ect? Please Confirma nd thanks for all your help

I was going to ask the same question because my 1992 legend had over 240000 miles on it before some fool rear ended me.

You can use the tranny you have with any engine. I would say look for another TL-P engine, any year will work. You can find a used engine with 30-50k on it for $1500 or less if you look around.

Pretty much ran the car real hard. Very aggressive driver as you can see my mods, I drove like 600-800 miles a week for my job. Oil Changes were every 4-5K miles, Went through 4 Acura Piece of Sh-t Trannys had just about every spark coil replaced, Never replaced the timing belt and thats pretty much it.
