CAI or HEADERS?

OK, I have about $250-$300 to spend for a mod, and I either want to get an ICEBOX CAI, or OBX Heders. As of now I am almost completely stock, except for a K&N air filter.
Which do you guys suggest I get? Please list the pros and cons of each; (i.e. gas mileage, maintenance, performance from the line, from a roll????)
Oh yeah, its a 99-TLp
Thanks

HEADERS! Drive down to Tischer Acura and have them do the install. Ask for Brandon and tell them Steve Geraci sent you.

We should be more worried about our trannies failing then OBX's quality. I've had good luck w/ mine,on for 1and a half years and 50k miles(3 trannies though)

ya I know, wasnt really directed to you.
You should get the OBX headers and put them on yourself. The CAI is basicly for sound, and you can get the same noise/sound from removing your intake resonator combined w/ you K&N it will be very close to the same. Headers are BY FAR the best hp gain for your car (besides some custom made S/C or turbo(yes I said turbo its out there))

Will the headers do anything to my car noise wise?

Do headers make any noise? Or will the car sound the same?

headers do not increase the exhaust note, but will have a BIT of a tinny noise in some rpm range and when cold

if it was me, id get the intake. i hear that after 2-3 yrs the obx headers have probs. id rather be safe and save for the comptechs. who knows, maybe when that happens, they will be cheaper too

also, a lil off topic but does removing the resonator add ne power or anything? i took mine off and i think i feel somethin could jsut me mind games

I agree with everything but 2-3 years....when they fuck up...its like less than 1 year, but who is checking....I mean they are less than 1/3 the price of the Comptechs...so its your call...

Anyway there isnt 1 mod to our ride that will make that big of difference...trust me...I have rode in an 03 Type S and an 04 TL...honesty I wasnt than impressed with either of them vs my TLP. I know both are faster, but not faster that I really was like fucking shit!~!!!!! (sorry bout the words...)....If you want fast get a LS430 or an BMW 5 Series. Seriously, we have a nice middle of the line ride...dont expect more...

Ugh... modding a Type-S with only bolt ons will make it faster than both of those cars. Trust me, I've done it :P

Fellows, what is CAI for? As I understand from forum some people mentioned that CAI doesn’t really give extra HP, just extra sound. CAI goes for around 250 bucks. That’s life-long air filters supply for a car. Besides the moral satisfaction, where is the catch?

CAI... Cold Air Intake WILL ADD HORSEPOWER. The Comptech icebox adds around 10 horsepower. The AEM or Injen intake will only add around 7-8 horsepower. With the Comptech you won't notice much of a sound change until you are in VTEC. With the AEM or Injen the sound in VTEC will be MUCH MUCH more noticable. It'll be very loud.

You're a tard :P The icebox is a cold air intake.

And, increased performance throughout the powerband is better than increased performance only at higher RPMs. Horsepower gains are all about "area under the curve" not just an increase in "peak" power... just the facts.

Personally, I'd take a mod that added 10-15 whp from 2500 RPM up to redline than a mod that made 25-30 whp from 5500 RPM to redline.

If you are looking more toward noticeable performance, go with the headers. I've had both. The sound of a AEM or Injen CAI is nice. Either one will be fine to get first, because sooner or later you will have both!

Everyone tells me that if it rains, or if you go through puddles, then the least amount of water that gets in the CAI is going to fuck your engine up. The bypass valve basically cancels out the CAI, so my friend told me and the guy at Acura.

it rains a bunch where I am so I would'nt take that chance. Would headers be a good option if I don't get CAI.

You don't need the CAI to enjoy the performance of the headers. I've had the headers on with and without CAI and Comptech exhaust. Headers will give better mid and high power. Not a total thrust like a turbo, but still noticeable over stock.

I have a CAI and i felt that it lagged more when under 3500 RPM but after that the difference was huge. It is a good kick in the pants when you hit VTEC however just don't expect much before that. Personal opinion: Go with stone headers. Seem to get better reviews in terms of quality than the OBX and at a reasonable cost... WWW.ssautochrome.com $368.50 w/o shipping... Headers, according to most posts, seem to give better power all the way across the powerband...

Headers will only increase power past 4500 RPM, dyno proven. And you really won't begin to see gains greater than 5-7whp until you are around 5500RPM.
