CAI ? .... actually dilemma!!

I understand from reading a number of threads that the type s aem cai doesnt fit on a tl-p b/e of the size difference between the TB's. I just purchased a type s throttle body. I was going to purchase a new type s CAI, (so that the cai and the tb would be the same diameter) but I read somehwere else that the cai might be too short on my 99tl being that I dont have the vsa unit currently on type s tls. I guess my problem with the 2.75 to 3" coupling is that I prefer to have the same size intake/throttle body opening if possible. Then I saw dyno #'s on the v2, which gives greater gains than that of the aem cai i currently have on my tl. I was thinking should I purchase this one, being that it will fit on my tl, actually i just remembered the v2 doesnt work on the type s, i am thinking it is too long but also the diameter will not work with my type s TB. I guess I am just confused and dont know what I should do, please help. Sorry for the lonnnnng thread. Thanks!!!!! P.s., I WILL do dyno numbers to finally get the question answered, what will the gains be???? Patrick, I am taking one for the team!!!!

so you currently have a Type S TB on your '99??? or not? I cant tell from the thread. But the V2 will only fit a TLP TB

ohhh so you know have a TLP CAI? Well I will buy it if you want to sell it to me for a good price! I would just get a Type S CAI and call it good, not worry about the V2. I mean it only gives a few more hp anyway.

The only thing I am worried about is I read somewhere that the type s CAI is alot shorter than the tl-p CAI, b/e the type s has the vsa unit; the tl-p CAI is longer b/e it doesnt have the vsa unit. I am hestiating to buy a type s CAI if it doesnt go down as far as the CAI i have now. If I do sell it you have dibs!!!!

Does anyone know if I use the type s CAI on my 99tl (with type S TB) will it be long enough to reach the correct location for it to work properly (my current tl-p CAI reaches all the way down almost to the flap under the car). I heard the type s CAI is shorter than the TL-p CAI b/e the type s CAI has the VSA. Thanks

What's up jleon2516. TB sent. Should be there by friday, saturday the latest. Hey you have to use your intake the one that is made for your car and get the coupling from 2.75 to 3". That's the only way it will work. Yes the TL-S is to short.

dont worry. TL-P and Type-S are both same body dimensions. The intake should fit normally.

As for ur whole TB thing, im pretty sure going with the Type-S TB and CAI will give u more gains than a V2 alone so go with that. As ou sig said, v2 only gives few more hp than normal cai.

I think what they are saying is that the intake made for the TL-S is shorter than the TL-P because our Type S cars have VSA unlike the TL-P's, this makes the length different. My guess is get a TL-P intake and somehow get it from 2.75 to 3 inch'es to fit your Type S TB.

the only area you may have a problem in distance may be where it meets the TB. they mak elonger adapter hoses if needed, get a long piece of silicon hose to make up the idstance
