Talking buzzing noise and rattles...also raced an Intrepid

Hello All,

When I start my car and put it in drive (usually reversing out of the garage, then forward), I hear a buzzing sound in the engine area. usually, 1.5 second buzz then pause, and another 1.5 second buzz. Then it goes away. I think I read somewhere on this site that it is the ABS initializing. Is that right? If so, please let me know so I don't get so paranoid. Also, the dash rattles a lot, are there any quick fixes for this? I don't want to take it to the dealer since they would probably tear away the dash and cause a different rattle some where else. The rattle is coming from the dash right above the center vent (above the navi). Would silicone spray work? OT: i was at the stop light last nite with 4 passengers in my car and an intrepid pulls up next to me and the guy revs his engine. needless to say, when the lights turned green, i smoked him until I had to make a left turn. i redlined the car and it only has 150 miles on it. oh well, it was fun.

Make sure you find out where the squeeks are before spraying anything. For a while I was getting annoyed at rattling noises from what I thought was within the dashboard, but later found out that it was just the remote hitting the dash whenever I went over any bumps. The only creeks I'm still unable to pin point are noises located above and behind me. I think it may be the edge of the moonroof cover hitting the inside ceiling when I have the cover opened and the moonroof closed.

Check your sunglasses holder. Rattling sunglasses can easily be confused with a rattling dashboard. Try to wedge your glasses in there so they don't move around.

Yeah, I read about the sunglass holder on this site as well. I narrowed it down to the dash because if I put a little bit of pressure on the dash above the Navi/center vent, the rattle goes away....damn...should I take it in?

The buzzing noise is definitely from the ABS. I have confirm this with the dealer. As far as the dash, I think it's your moonroof. The rubber molding rubs against eachother when the window is closed. Try pushing the window up and down when it is closed and you should be able to reproduce the noise. Or, leave your moonroof open and see if you still hear the noise. I have the same "problems" and the dealer is going to take care of the mooroof issue tomorrow.

Yeah. I know what you are talking about for the sunroof. My honda civic was like that. I don't really think there is a fix for that since it's not really a defect. it is just a bad design. The sunroof seals should not be made 100% of rubber (it squeaks when it rubs up against metal). they should make it from the fuzzy/rubber seals used on volkswagens. Anyways, to get rid of the squeaks, apply silicone around the edges and wipe off. Your sunroof noises should disappear. But my damn dash still rattles. Too bad for me I guess. waaaaaaaah...

An Intrepid? Was that guy serious? What a joke? A Viper would be competition.
