Burning Navigation DVD

Has anyone tried burning the DVD navigation disc and have it work? I am going to try soon and will get back to everyone. Please tell me if you have any luck.

There would probably be some sort of copyright protection on the CD but if you use the latest version of any burner software, there's a way to by-pass the copyright protection. Hehe, let me know if it works.

Has a new version of the DVD been released since the '02 came out?

I wish they would do something worth talking about like using MapQuest maps.

personally i dont see why you couldnt burn the navi dvd.....i think it is a crime for them to charge that much for a navi update.....but tranman329 if you need anyhelp let me know i have been copying dvd's for about 6 months now and have also wondered if this would be possible but since i dont have a navi it doesnt really affect me much......

i'm pretty sure it is possible but who is going to pay 150.00 just to burn them and sell them out. and i don't know if it will work in the Navi unit.

djsteve how come if you say it works you are not trying to sell them....i think that it is very possible that it could work but there are a couple issues that may cause problems.....1...it depends if the navi dvd is a dvd-5 or a dvd-9 to wether or not you can copy it...and 2....will the stock dvd navi unit except and play a dvd-r or dvd-rw.....if the navi dvd is a dvd-9 then it would be very difficult to copy the dvd since a dvd-9 is dual layered and dvd-r are only single layered (dvd-5)....if anyone in the jax, fl area is interested they can email me and we can give this a shot....

there are very few on the market now but yes there are DVD-r 9.4GB discs. So if it is a 9.4GB(unlikely) you could still possibly copy it.

there is a difference between the dvd-9 (9.4g) disk they sell on the market and the dvd-9 disk that companies use to record on the dvd-9 disk they sell to the public is simply a 2 sided dvd-5 disk....the dvd-9 disk that almost all dvd movies come on are dual layered 1 sided....so this would still be impossible with out having to flip the disk when you want to veiw other info on it.....

Calidog does the Navi seem slower now that you are using a DVD-R? Or is it the same speed? Also if I brought my car into the dealership would they get mad if They caught me with a DVD-R Copy in my NAVI?? Like can they fine me or They can just get mad and do nothing?:p

Sorry for my late reply guys. Blank DVDs run around $5 now, at least that's how much I got them for. They're burned by a Sony DVD+R Burner. I borrowed my friend's navi DVD (ver 2.05, mine was ver 2.03) and burned it. When I popped in the burned copy the navi told me to wait while downloading update. Then it kept doing that over and over for 6-7 times. Then I put the original (ver 2.05) and all it took was 1 time of updating. After that it worked after putting in the burned copy. So I'm not sure if it has to update with the original DVD or what. Anyways I'm running on a burned DVD now and it doesn't seem to be any slower. Everything is exactly the same except more entries of restaurants and other goodies! I guess if I'm bringing in the car for service they really have no business looking in the navi box but I can easily put my older version in when I wanna get my car serviced. Hope that helps!

BASICALLY U NEED ORIGINAL

Basically no matter what you need the original for the update but after that you can use the burned copy.. OK Well if you had a friend it works so I guess if your burning the copy just take the original and put it in and than use the burned copy...

I went looking for an update cause I haven't done it in a few years. It looks like they haven't issues one since 1999. When will a new version be released? I thought they did it every October or something...

i thought DVD burner out there can only burn 1 layer...not 2 layers like some DVD out in the market. Is the Navi DVD is only 1 layer?

So we're getting a new update this December?? What update will this be? Will be getting the brand new interface that they just put in the Accord & MDX?

I had a discussion string similar to this, but it was deleted by the moderator on the TL-S area. I tried to copy my 2.05 for a neighbor, but it didn't go. Perhaps the DVD-R was not readable?

I used Roxio (Adaptec) Toast DVD copy on my Apple Dual G4. Any suggestions? Thanks!
