Brakes worn uneven

Hey guys,

Few days ago, I noticed a click sound while applying the brakes to bring the car to a full stop after reversing. Then I noticed the same some noise when I applied the brake to bring the car to a full stop in drive mode. I only hear this when coming to a full stop when revising and coming to a full stop after the revise.

I took the front passenger brake out, and I noticed that the top and bottom of the brake is alomost to the metal. I would I have about 10 % pad left on the top and bottom part of the brake, but I have more than 50% pad left in the center of the pad.

Has anyone else had this problem?

sounds about right, also make sure the caliper moves freely on the pin and that its lubricated. was the caliper securely attached to the car or did it have play?

if you drive around for a little while and let the caliper get hot you can jack up that side and just spin the wheel and see if there is any friction

that might just be the pad design. that looks impossible to be from driving wear.

When you said uneven wear- many of the groups answers were based on inner pad versus outer pad wear, thats a bad thing.
What you have is the forces of braking at work.
The weight transfers forward under braking

Get some Hawk HPS and be done with it

There's nothing wrong with that pad in the pic. The edges of the pad are chamfered to reduce brake noise, and is usually done on the leading edge only.

That's a picture of the brake pad, not the brake.

I don't know where you're getting those 10%/50% numbers from. That pad looks almost brand new - with no uneven wear. Have you ever done brakes before? You may want to have someone who knows what they're doing help you out. We don't a fellow a-zine member working on their brakes incorrectly and getting in an accident.

Well, I have done brake work before, but I have never paid attention to the shape of the pad. The reason why I panic was because the clicking sound. I appreciate your all concerns.

Yeah - my GF has that clicking sound from her front pads as well. It's just the pads sliding back and forth a bit on the calipers. It's nothing to worry about. Some new brake hardware can help fix that. You can find brake hardware to hold the pads tight in the caliper in any auto parts store.

I also put my pads in with no shims over them (unless they come with something like the green stuff pads do), but use brake anti-squeal on the outer pad. Don't use too much - two little dabs where the pad holder meets the pad is all you need.
