Exclamation Brakes - IMPORTANT READ

Hello fellow TL owners. I had an interesting occurrence yesterday. I brought my 2001 TL into the dealership yesterday because I was getting a strong vibration every time I would step on the brakes coming thorough the steering wheel and brake pedal. I left it there and went to work. Later in the day they called me and told me that they replaced my front brake pads and re-cut my rotors and that I should not have any more vibrations. I asked them what was wrong and the told me that they have been having a lot of problems with the brake pads and that they were replacing them with upgraded brake pads to resolve this problem. I just though everyone should know, especially if you are experiencing this same problem. So, basically they were telling me that the original brake pads were crap. I hope this helps everyone out…

Definitely 2000 and 2001, because they are identical. The problem was fixed for 2002. I am not sure about 1999 and before.

Thanks for the info. I have already took my car in for Brakes and they fixed it, which was 2 months ago. Now are shaking again. I am going back to the dealer and have them replace them again.
Hell I just need to break down and buy the good ones from Tim.

I recommend the Axxis Metal Master brake pads. The pedal seems a lot stiffer. I got rotors and pads at the same time and, while I've driven about 500 miles, I still haven't really stomped on the brakes. There is a little more brake noise from the high performance pads but I usually can't hear it and it doesn't bother me.

i have a 99 and the brakes on the car are my biggest complaint. they are absolutely terrible. my girlfriend who has a 5 series bmw even commented on them while driving my car one day. my steering wheel shakes even when i hit the brakes lightly. im going to take it to the dealer and see if they will do anything for free (i have 72k miles) if not i guess i will just get the aftermarket rotors and pads.

Cool

YES the dealers have an official bulletin from Acura to replaced or re-finish warp rotors. They are also replacing the pads. They said that does pads have too much metal. The warping of the rotors was caused by the pads. They Offer my a pair of crossdrilled rotors for $350.00 with free installation. It is easier for them to replaced them with new rotors than re-surfacing the old ones. So I did purchase them. New pair goes for $300 so I said, just do it.

My car is going in Thursday to have the brakes looked at. When I drop it off I will ask the Service manager what he plans to do to see if he says they are going to replace the pads and resurface or replace the rotors. I will let you know when I pick up the car. I can't stand the vibration, and at highway speed, it is pulling to the left also! Is there a TSB for this brake problem?

I just called my service rep...he knows nothing about this brake replacment thing. And he's advised me against a lot of service that would have been costly to me and really saved my wallet...I don't think he's BS'ing me.

Matt,
I believe the brake work will be covered under warranty....shouldn't cost you a dime.
Do you have problems with brake vibration??

Acura recall

Look at 21. That was before, now they are replacing the pads too. This is all under warranty. Maybe your service rep. should get fired and get one that knows something.

I got 34,000 miles on my car...they consider anything over 1yr, 10,000 to be wear & tear and will not touch them...doesn't matter, getting some Power Stop rotors and Axxis pads anyway.

Wish Comptech would get there sh_t together for the '00 TL !!! Web site has the rotors & pads avail...call them up and they are like "Oh, they aren't acutally available yet".

I called my dealer's service dept. the other day and spoke to a new guy. I usually deal with Peter Studwell @ Acura of Greenwich in CT, but this other guy gave me some line about these brake problems being caused by overly aggressive driving and braking. I told him that was bullshit. How many people have had this problem fixed under warranty? And, is there any more detailed technical service bulletin info. than what I found on Alldata.com? The brakes are the worst part of the 2000 TL.

Hey Danny, I hate to be a stick in the mud, especially all the advice you have given me, but Greenwich Acura can suck my big fat rooster.

They are all a bunch of cocky, arrogant a$$holes.

They told me that springs/sways installation costs $850. Installation ONLY.

When I contested, Peter said "You thought wrong. Ask Danny, Ask Jason. That's the cost."

Well, he als THOUGHT he was going to get my business. Park Ave did it for $350.

RE: Greenwich Acura-

I bent over and paid them as most of you know... never again.

I won't badmouth them on here, but I will say that I will definitely be heading to Park Ave whenever I need work done, even though it is around a 1 hour drive... what does that tell you??

My oil changes will still be done there (they're free for life) and emergency warranty work will be done there as well.

Dudes,

do you think we can take a print out of the alldata information, and make a claim about all the things wrong with the TL?

I am considering throwing the alldata info in their face when they give me any BS about brake problems and what not...

I've had my rotors and pads replaced once before, and my rotors shaved afterwards once and I only have about 21k miles on my '99.
