Brake question

Hey all. New to the forum. I have a 03 TLS that I bought last November with 33k, and now has 53k!

Anyways, my question is about rotors. I had a severe vibration when braking above 60 mph, and took it to a dealer to get fixed @ 43k. Now at 53k miles it is doing the same thing again. I spoke with the service manager, and she said with all the rain rotors are warping frequently. With that being said, she said she would warrant another resurfacing.

I have read the article about rotor warping. That aside, has anyone else, especially in Florida had this problem repeatedly?

I am looking in to getting a set of slotted rotors to help dissipate the heat, however I do not know if this will help.

Please give me some feedback.

Thanks y'all,
Dan...

I (in Florida) initially had issues with the brakes, they are not that great to begin with (per Consumer reports), however I switched to Rotora Rotors and EBC Greens, before the problem got out of hand, and have not had any issues at all with them since.

Continually resurfacing is not recommended and only provide temp. relief.

How are your pads holding up?

There are an number of other postings regarding issues with Rotors/Pads and Resurfacing - you would get additional information by doing a search.

FYI- there is a Group Buy going on for Rotora Rotors

Ty much, I did see the buy. I probably only have one re-surfacing left, and am looking to cure the problem as opposed to throwing money at the symptom. Any other thoughts about what might be causing it?

If I read the article right it is saying I should break in the brakes when I first get them, by doing a series of "almost stops." Is this what all of you do?

I am concerned b/c I bought a like new vehicle that is developing the same problem every 10k miles. I would like Acura to fix this w/o charging me for it if the problem is their fault.

Thanks again.

resurfacing will not cure the warping. the rotors are crap to begin with and it has nothing to do with the rain.
about the only thing that will resolve your issue is a better set of pads and rotors (not oem)

beding your pads in is not necessary either (unelss you do alot of spirited driving) just be easy on them for teh first few hundred miles after you get new pads and rotors.

I believe the issue is really the rotors are not the best quality Acura may not have received top quality material for the rotors hence the poor report with Consumer Reports and many TL owners - it's not throwing money at the sympton it is more like avoiding the repeat visits to the dealer when there is little they can do - only resurface or replace. The end result you will throw away money on PADS more often, hence the solution upgrade your brakes with a best quality product.

i think the real issue is that the rotors arent Thick enough to help dissipate enought heat. if you look at teh size of our rotors than compare them to say a gm car the rotors are quite a bit thinner than the GM rotors.

If you pads are still in good shape, you can have the rotors resurfaced again and reuse the remaining of the pads. Once the pads worn out and the discs warp again, now it is a good time to get the new after market rotors and new pads. In any case, the oem rotors are the worst. The oem rotors were not just warped on me, but they flaked off causing dimple on the rotors. If you can afford it, just replace the rotors and pads now. it will be a lot better than the oem rotors.

speaking from my experience only!!!
I did have virbrations and the dealer kindly replaced the rotor for me.
But the vibration didn't go away.

Few weeks after I felt like balancing my tires.
well.....hard to believe....the vibration is gone.....I may say it is very very very minimum to notice. I can live with it now.

plain and simple acura stock rotors suck get brembo blanks or a set of performance rotors off ebay and some ceramic pads, acura rotors are about as hard as a block of cheese thats why they warp all the time.
