Brake Problem
Brake Problem
Bought some rotors over the weekend...and some oem pads. When I went to take off the rotors the screws that hold the rotor in place are frozen because of the rust. Now I went to a local garage and they couldn't even get them off. Anyone else has a clue before i get raped by the dealer?

try putting some heat on them. get something like a mapps torch, heat that screw till its almost red, let it cool for a second or two, then try it. they might have used loctite on it. you can also try using some penetrating oil, although that won't work as well as the heat. another thing you can try is an impact screw driver, the type you hit on the end with a hammer, they also work well.

well don't take my word on it, but I think you may have to torch them off...that's right, use a blow torch to get them off. Essentially you will need to burn through the rust, but I don't know if you can damage the rotor doing so. Anyways, if you're throwing the old rotors out, then who cares...but becareful..

also..try tightening the lugnuts onto the studs with out the wheel...usually that works
i don't know, work in a machine shop, constantly getting out frozen pipe plugs out 1/4" to 1" using heat directly on the plug 'till it is red hot let it cool for a few secs & bingo comes right out with ease. I under stand the heat expansion theory for bigger item, do it all the time. but for smaller items the above works great. large masses of steel suck too much of the heat away, unless you have a large rosebud, (torch head)
