Bought a used TL, what should be done to it?

So, beyond the obligatory oil change, and maybe sea foam, is there anything model specific i should do?

Thanks!

<_< no. I didn't really put much research into it. Bought it from a friend that drove it daily, so i assumed it was serviceable.

I'll go look now.

^Should change that out ASAP..

I would:
1.- Change Engine Oil + Filter
2.- Change ATF + Screw type Filter
3.- Change Brake Fluid
4.- Change P/S Fluid
5.- Change A/F
6.- Inspect Brake rotors and Pads replace if necessary

^ I always do this on a New car regardless of make and model.

Is there a DIY on changing PS fluid? I don't think I've ever done that to any car.

Any 10 year old car with over 100k is going to require attention.
Best place to start is your owner's manual and then download a copy of Acura's factory service manual if you're a DIY'er. Check the 2nd Gen DIY sticky for lot's of common issues and tips for resolving them. It's all here if ya take the time to look for whatever concerns ya.

Damn I did a DIY but for a Honda forum..

You will need:
2x ATF (use Z1 or DW-1)
5-6x Honda Genuine P/S Bottles
1x Empty bottle you can cut its inlet
1x Helping Buddy

Its pretty easy just need to:

1.- Locate your P/S Reservoir.
2.- Locate your Return Line (The most upper one in the Res)
3.- Remove the Return Line and fix a bottle to catch the P/S Fluid.
4.- Now use your helping buddy to start the engine for around 3 seconds and shut it off.
5.- Use the ATF and slowly pour it into the reservoir so it can start to circulate as P/S fluid (DONT LET THE PUMP STARVE OF FLUID!)
6.- REPEAT UNTIL YOU USED ALL 2 QUARTS OF ATF
7.- Now open open you first bottle of P/S and flush out the ATF until you see less red liquid and more transparent (P/S Fluid is Transparent / ATF is Cherry Red).
8.- Use only 1 bottle of P/S for flushing out the ATF (Don't worry if it doesn't come out completely Clean its alright to leave some ATF in the System).
9.- Close the Inlet line of the P/S and Fill it up with the remaining P/S Bottles.

ILL SEARCH FOR PICS!

DONE! In a rate of 1-10 for difficulty its around a 1 or 2 at most.

ATF serves as a detergent for the P/S system but it isn't harsh to the seals like MANY P/S only Detergents sold in Autozone and such.

If ya prefer oem, Honda does have a specially formulated PS fluid which is recommended by the manufacturer.

I may be able to supply pictures when I do it. I managed to step on my digital camera, so they would be cell phone pics.

But they should be sufficient to show what's going on.

Also, the manual shows to clear the system of fluid completely, then refill it. But i like your way better.

I also plan on doing it soon. I would hate to see my rack fail partly because the fluid got so nasty.

Those aren't cheap to fix either, not to mention they're a pain in the ass to get to if you plan on DIYing.

^ Yah I would not run the P/S Pump dry like the manual says :S that thing is shit expensive to risk it just for a Fluid Change..

And thanks! I'm glad it helps.

I edited the above to show what's done. But do you have a part number/ suggested place to get a screw on trans filter? And possibly a how to? I'm sure i can figure it out, I think i saw it when i swapped the first 3qt.

I need to do it on the last of the 3x3. And I'll do everything else i can on the list... given my bank account allows.

The 2nd Gen "DIY" sticky has the procedure for replacing the spin on ATF filter.

I could have sworn i looked through there today. I'll look again.

Is it in the 2006 tranny replacement thread?

Edit: This will be my 2nd of the 3x3. I'm not sure why i thought i only needed to do it twice.
